"Barbara Ann" was composed by Fred Fassert. The Regents included the song on their album of the same name in 1961. The Bronx-based group got their name from the fact that lead singer Guy Villari smoked Regents cigarettes. He still has the empty pack that was in his pocket the day the band's name was chosen.

Other members include Sal Cuomo as first tenor, Chuck Fassert singing second tenor, Tony Gravagna playing sax and Don Jacobucci on bass. Brian Wilson was obligated for one more track on the "Beach Boys' Party!" album.

He chose "Barbara Ann" and sang lead on the song along with Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean. Dean is not credited on the album. The song peaked at number two for the Beach Boys. The Moonglows appeared in the movie "Rock, Rock, Rock" and had a hit with "Sincerely" in 1958.

The Diamonds are best known for "Little Darlin'" and "The Stroll". In 1959 Dicky Do and the Don'ts performed "Tear Drops Will Fall" on "Dick Clark's Saturday Night Beechnut Show".

"Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" was written by Frankie Lymon, George Goldner, Herman Santiago and Jimmy Merchant. Frankie is credited with becoming the first African-American teen idol after the song was released on Gee Records in January, 1956. The release reached number six on the Billboard pop singles chart and topped the Billboard R&B singles chart for five weeks.

In 1981 Diana Ross charted "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?" in the Billboard Top Ten. The Beach Boys' recording of "Fun, Fun, Fun" reached number five on the charts in 1964. Dion and the Belmonts had several hits including "Teenager in Love". Little Anthony and The Imperials' first single in 1958 was "Tears on My Pillow".

The Tokens had a major hit with their 1961 version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

Ellie Greenwich, Phil Spector and Jeff Barry wrote "Chapel of Love". It was a big hit in 1965 for the Dixie Cups, spending three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Bette Midler recorded her version in 1972 on "The Divine Miss M" album and and the Persuasions recorded a version in 1973. "Crying in the Chapel" is a popular gospel song recorded by many artists including Elvis Presley.

The 1965 Beach Boys album "Summer Days (And Summer Nights!)" contained a cover of "And Then I Kissed Her", another Ellie Greenwich, Phil Spector and Jeff Barry composition that was originally sung by the Crystals in 1963.

The 1965 "Beach Boys' Party!" LP contained "There's No Other (Like My Baby)", a song also done by the Crystals in 1961. The Beach Boys have had 36 Top 40 hits and 56 Hot 100 hits. Four were number one singles.

The song is a tribute to New Jersey's Palisades Amusement Park which was in operation from 1898 to 1971. Freddy Cannon was born Frederick Anthony Picariello and took the stage name Freddy Cannon. He was nicknamed "Boom Boom" because of his thundering musical renditions. Chuck Barris of "Gong Show" fame wrote the song. "Palisades Park" was also done by Gary Lewis & the Playboys in 1965 and The Ramones in 1989. Lou Christy had several sixties hits including "Two Faces Have I". Bobby Rydell was also a sixties teen idol with hits like "Forget Him". Ray Peterson has "Tell Laura I Love Her" and "Corinna, Corinna" among his seven gold records.

The hand clapping during the original song is performed by Sharon Sheeley and the vocals at the end of each verse are spoken by Cochran himself.

The song has since been recorded by over thirty artists. Groups that have enjoyed chart success with the song include Blue Cheer, The Who and Alan Jackson. The Beach Boys did not release the song as a single.

It is in the soundtrack to "Caddyshack". Carl Perkins is best known for writing "Blue Suede Shoes". Bill Haley is a pioneer of rock and roll with such hits as "Rock Around the Clock" and Buddy Holly is a legendary singer and songwriter. On October 3, 1961, The Pendletones recorded "Surfin'".

When they unpacked the first box of singles they were surprised to learn that their band name had been changed to The Beach Boys.

Del Shannon and Johnny Rivers also recorded later versions. Bobby Freeman is well known for dance style hits such as the 1964 Top Ten hit "C'mon and Swim".

In 2004 "Rolling Stone Magazine" ranked the Beach Boys number 12 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

"Sloop John B" is a traditional West Indies folk song. It is the seventh track on The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" album. It was released as a single in 1966. Al Jardine was a folk music fan and suggested to Brian Wilson that the Beach Boys do a cover version of "Sloop John B".

Although not initially in agreement to do the song, Brian worked out an arrangement including some minor lyric changes. Al thought he would be selected to sing the song, but Brian and Mike Love ended up sharing the vocals on different verses.

The flip side was "You're So Good to Me". On June 13, 2006, the remaining original Beach Boys; Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks reunited for a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the album "Pet Sounds" in a ceremony atop the Capitol Records building in Hollywood.
