Bobby Brown began his music career as a member of New Edition. The group's hits with Brown include "Candy Girl", "Cool It Now" and "Mr. Telephone Man". Brown's on stage antics reportedly caused his removal from the band. He later admitted that alcohol fueled his antics.

After leaving New Edition in 1986, Brown released his first solo album, "King of Stage". Brown's next album, "Don't Be Cruel" was released in 1988. He collaborated with L.A. Reid, Babyface and Teddy Riley with the songwriting duties.

"Two Hearts" was written and produced by Collins and Lamont Dozier. Dozier gained fame as part of the Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. The song was specifically composed for the 1988 crime comedy film "Buster". The song earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. "Groovy Kind of Love" is also from the movie and reached number one in 1988. "Separate Lives" is a 1985 duet with Marilyn Martin.

The song is from the soundtrack to the motion picture "White Nights". "One More Night" is also a 1985 number one hit for Collins. Collins did the soundtrack to the animated film "Tarzan" in 1999 and won an Oscar for "You'll Be in My Heart".

Milli Vanilli's debut album, "All Or Nothing", was released in Europe in 1988. The "All or Nothing" single made the top five in 1990. Milli Vanilli's "Baby Don't Forget My Number" hit the top spot in early July, 1989. "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" topped the charts in September and they followed up with the number one "Blame it on the Rain" in November.

The group attracted controversy when their 1990 Grammy Award for Best New Artist was withdrawn when it was revealed Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus did not actually perform the vocals. Arista Records dropped them from their roster and removed the album from their catalog. Numerous lawsuits ensued. Morvan and Pilatus signed with the LA-based Joss Entertainment Group and recorded a follow-up album under the name Rob & Fab.

Sheriff was formed in 1979 in Toronto. The lineup consisted of singer Freddy Curci, Steve de Marchi, Arnold Lanni, Wolf Hassel and Rob Elliott. In 1982 they released their self-titled album. "Rock On" was originally composed and sung by David Essex. In March of 1974 it was a Top Five song on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It was also Essex's only Billboard Top 40 hit. Michael Damian Weir had an 18-year run on "The Young and the Restless". He released five albums and has had eight top 40 hits in addition to "Rock On". "Rock On" earned him a gold record and he also won a BMI Songwriting Award for his single, "Was It Nothing at All?". Byron MacGregor's top five in 1974 was "Americans". "Seasons in the Sun" was a number one for Terry Jacks in 1974. William DeVaughn hit the Top Five in 1974 with "Be Thankful for What You've Got".

Fine Young Cannibals was formed in Birmingham, England, by vocalist Roland Gift and former The Beat members David Steele and Andy Cox. "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing" are from their 1989 album "The Raw and the Cooked". They Might Be Giants' best-known songs include "Birdhouse in Your Soul", "Don't Let's Start" and "Ana Ng".

Their appearances on the show Tiny Toon Adventures also gained recognition for the song "Particle Man". New Order's first release was the single "Ceremony". Crowded House is a rock group formed in Melbourne, Australia, fronted by New Zealander Neil Finn.

Their hits include "Don't Dream It's Over", "Something So Strong", and "Weather With You".

In 1988, Jonathan Cain reunited with former members of the Babys John Waite, Neal Schon and Ricky Phillips to form Bad English. The group disbanded before their second album, "Backlash", was mixed. The album's single release, "Straight To Your Heart", didn't even make the Top 40. Bad English drummer Deen Castronovo joined the reformed Journey with singer Steve Augeri and also played on Ozzy Osbourne's album, "Ozzmosis". Mike and the Mechanics took "In the Living Years" to number one the week of March 25th, 1989. On June 24, "Satisfied" was number one for Richard Marx and Simply Red took "If You Don't Know Me by Now" to the top spot in July.

"Listen to Your Heart" reportedly broke in the US when a Minneapolis radio station played the song after getting numerous requests for it. "Eternal Flame" went to number one in April for the Bangles. "Toy Soldiers" was Martika's 1989 number one hit. "Seasons Change" was a 1988 number one for Expose.

They began touring as the opening act for Tiffany. When "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," became a huge success Tiffany started opening for the boys, even though they were co-billed. "Step by Step" became their final Number One the following year.

The group disbanded in June, 1994.

"Miss You Much" is the lead single from Janet Jackson's fourth album, "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814". It was her second number one hit and the biggest selling song of 1989. Jackson received American Music Awards for "Favorite Soul/R&B Single" and "Favorite Dance Single" for "Miss You Much".

She was nominated for "Favorite Dance Artist" and nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance". The single also won a Soul Train Music Award for "Best R&B/Soul Single, Female". "Miss You Much" also kept Madonna's "Cherish" at the number two spot. "Straight Up" and "Forever Your girl" both reached number one for Paul Abdul. "Straight Up" topped the charts for three weeks. Debbie Gibson also had a three week number one run with "Lost in Your Eyes" in March, 1989. Madonna's three week run was with April's number one "Like a Prayer".
