Are the seas still dry?
Don't blame this [blankety blank]!"

Question 10 of 10
10. And finally, we have a fine band for a fine last question. Emerson Hart and Jeff Russo's band formed in 1993, and this is their most well known song. It's a fairly cliché rock ballad from the U S of A, but do me a favour. Blank my blanking blank.

"If you [blankety blank blank]
The way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue
Her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me"
Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This song is from the most recent album by a band that actually broke up in the 90's, but one of the members still records under their old name. Can you blank my blanking blanks? "I wish the [blankety blank blank] me, Or maybe you in sympathy I look around the room to see Who has seen"

Answer: '...ground would swallow...'

Shakespear's Sister, a force to be reckoned with during the late eighties and early nineties, broke up in the late nineties, even though they achieved great success with their number one 'Stay', and earlier hits such as 'You're History'. Siobhan Fahey, after being ditched by both Marcella Detroit and her former Bananarama bandmates, released the album '3' in 2005. That is where this set of lyrics comes from, and the song is called 'Opportunity Knockers'.
2. She's famous in the U.S.A, but with her one big hit, this oddly spelt wonder made it across the pond. She's fairly well known here, though, just not for her music. Can you blank my blanking blank? "I am a woman in love And I'd do anything To get you into my world And hold you within It's a right I defend [blankety blank blank blank]" How often would she do this?

Answer: 'Over and over again!'

Barbra Streisand, famous in the UK only for misspelling her name and being an actress, has made brief cameos on South Park. This one hit wonder of hers recently made it into the top 100 tear-jerking songs on the VH1 channel, and brought her song back into the fore in the UK.
3. This next hit was an eighties one hit wonder in the United Kingdom, but the song itself is so famous that it is remembered for its chorus alone. Does anyone actually remember who sang this? Can you blank my blanking blanks? "She'll [blankety blank blank] you Roll you like you were dice Until you come out [blank] She's got Bette Davis eyes"

Answer: '... take a tumble on... blue...'

The large-haired wonder that is Kim Carnes released this song in many countries, and it was a huge hit in the US and the UK, but it proved to be her only successful pop endeavour in Britain.
4. Moving on, we have the quintessential Welsh band of the 1990's. Cerys Matthews and her gaggle of musicians had several top ten hits in the UK with songs such as 'Road Rage' and 'Londinium'. Can you blank this blanking blank for me? "The sun is shining We should be making hay But we're dead from the waist down Like in [blankety blank]" What U.S State blanks this blanking blank?

Answer: California

'Dead From The Waist Down', for the album 'Equally Cursed and Blessed', was also a top ten hit for the band, although this album did not do quite as well as 'International Velvet', which featured the songs 'Mulder and Scully' and 'Strange Glue', along with 'Road Rage'. Cerys has since got sick of looking at the band, and has released her own album, 'Cockahoop', which wasn't as popular as the albums she had released with the band, but quickly gained a cult following, with its clever lyrics and experimental pop edge.
5. In the late seventies and eighties, this lady was a force to be reckoned with on the British music circuit. Russian headwear, a song by the name of a famous book, this girl did it all. Can you blank my blanking blank for her last big hit? "Oh, here I go It's calling for me through the trees Help me someone help me please Take my shoes off And throw them [blankety blank]"

Answer: '... in the lake...'

Taken from 'Hounds of Love', which was also the name of the album that the song was featured on. Kate Bush was the first singer to have a number one hit that she wrote herself (with 'Wuthering Heights'), and was from then on famous for unusual arm movements and running up a hill.

She ended on a high when she released her last album, 'Hounds of Love', in 1985, and it went straight to number one on the album charts.
6. Here's a song by 'Do Me Bad Things', a British band of nine people. It's their first British single, and the only one they have released, as of August 2005, that has made it into the top 40 chart. Can you blank my blanking blank and name the title? "Shaking it all Breaking the fall Thinking you've got it made [Blankety blank]!"

Answer: 'What's Hideous?'

'Do Me Bad Things', and their debut album 'Yes!', was so popular in the United Kingdom that in many places, their album sold out within the first week of its release. The nine people that are D.M.B.T all come from the Croydon suburb of London, and had two other songs to break the top 100, which were 'Move in Stereo' (which got to number 49), and 'Time for Deliverance' (which got to number 57).
7. She shaved her head, she got a number one, and then she ripped up the Pope, so we must be on about Sinead O'Connor. These lyrics are from her number one, 'Nothing Compares To You', so please. Blank my blanking blank. "All the flowers that you planted, Mama [Blankety blank blank] All died when you went away I know that living with you, baby, was sometimes hard But I'm willing to give it another try"

Answer: '... in the back yard...'

Sinead was a one hit wonder in the United States with this ballad, but her brand of rock-pop proved much more appealing in the United Kingdom, and as such, she has hits with other songs such as 'Mandinka'. It was pretty much the final straw for Sinead when she decided to shred John-Paul the second on national television, as her later appearances proved - after she was booed off stage at a benefit concert, she seemingly went into hiding.

Her 2002 album, which was her first album of new material in almost twelve years, was an album of Irish folk songs, entitled 'Sean Nos Nua'.
8. This song was a hit in the early 2000's in many European countries. Her second UK single, it didn't reach the dizzy heights of 'Sitting Down Here', but it was still a successful record for this Norwegian singer/songwriter. Can you blank my blanking blank? "You're trying to reach her But you know you won't get far Now she's not there, seems like an angel But you can't hear those words Now she's not there, seems like an angel [Blankety blank]"

Answer: 'Unforgivable Sinner'

Lene Marlin's two previous releases, 'Another Day' and 'Playing My Game' sold well in the United Kingdom, and although you might not have heard of Lene herself, you've probably heard 'Sitting Down Here' a few times - it was always on the radio in 2000. Lene isn't the only Norwegian to have a worldwide hit with her albums - Leona Naess also hit it big in many countries with her debut album 'Comatised'.
9. A lovely little one hit wonder here by Tasmin Archer, which goes by the name of 'Sleeping Satellite'. It was in the top spot for a fortnight in 1992, but then sadly, Ms Archer was never heard from again. Is the blank in this lyrics also the name of the song? Is that blank 'Sleeping Satellite'? "I blame you for the moonlit sky And the dream that died With the eagle's flight I blame you for the moonlit nights When I wonder why Are the seas still dry? Don't blame this [blankety blank]!"

Answer: Yes

Tasmin has released a couple of albums in her native Britain, the first of which was 'Great Expectations', which she brought out in 1992. Although I rate her highly as a singer and performer, she does look like she's wearing someone else's teeth. Seriously.
10. And finally, we have a fine band for a fine last question. Emerson Hart and Jeff Russo's band formed in 1993, and this is their most well known song. It's a fairly cliché rock ballad from the U S of A, but do me a favour. Blank my blanking blank. "If you [blankety blank blank] The way she loves me Then maybe you would understand Why I feel this way about our love And what I must do If you could only see how blue Her eyes can be when she says When she says she loves me"

Answer: '... could only see...'

This song was Tonic's greatest hit, and along with 'The Soldier's Daughter', this was one of the songs taken off of the 'Lemon Parade' album, released in 1999. Their other albums, including "Sugar", were also rather popular in America, but sadly the band never made it big over on this side of the pond.

Thank you for playing 'Blank My Blanking Blank'! This has been a 'Life at Lawndale' production.
