Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "All I want for you to do is take my body home. Well, well, well, so I can die easy. Well, well, well." This song is taken from the self-titled 'Bob Dylan' album, so you tell me what the name of the song is, to which these lyrics are attributed?

Answer: In My Time of Dyin'

This was Bob Dylan's first album of 1962, an outtake of which was 'Man on the Street,' which can be found on the album called 'The Bootleg Series.'
2. "Please see for me if her hair hangs long, if it rolls and flows all down her breast." This is taken from 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' album, but to which track are these lyrics to be attributed?

Answer: Girl from the North Country

"Remember me / to the one / who lives there, for she / once was / a true / love of mine" is another line of this song, which, though used here by Dylan, was first used in a traditional song called 'Scarborough Fair' which was recorded by Simon and Garfunkel.
3. "From the crossroads of my doorstep, my eyes start to fade. And I turn my head back to the room, where my love and I have laid." This is taken from Dylan's 'The Times They Are A-Changin' album, but from which song exactly?

Answer: One Too Many Mornings

A truly beautiful outtake of this album was 'Percy's Song.'. Thankfully, you can hear it on the 'Biograph' album of 1985. 'The Times They Are A-Changin' was Dylan's 3rd album released January 13th, 1964.
4. "The wind knocks my window, the room it is wet. The words to say I'm sorry, I haven't found yet." This is from Dylan's 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' album, but from which song exactly?

Answer: Ballad in Plain D

"In several of the songs, most notably in 'Ballad in Plain D' and 'My Back Pages,' it is evident that Dylan hasn't really learnt the chord changes properly before he started recording. In these 2 songs, it is difficult to find 2 verses that are played in the same way." - Quote taken from www.dylanchords.com
5. "Ain't it hard to stumble and land in some funny lagoon? Especially when it's nine below zero and three o'clock in the afternoon!" This is from Dylan's life-altering 'Bringing It All Back Home' album, but from which song?

Answer: Outlaw Blues

'Bringing It All Back Home' was recorded January 13th - 15th, 1965 and released March 22nd of the same year and contains some of Dylan's biggest hits including 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' and 'Mr Tambourine Man.'
6. "Well, when the pipeline gets broken and I'm lost on the river bridge, I'm cracked up on the highway and on the water's edge." 'Highway 61 Revisited' is a classic album, obviously, but which song's lyrics have I quoted?

Answer: From a Buick 6

'Highway 61 Revisited' was home to one of Dylan's biggest hits, 'Like a Rolling Stone' which, significantly, broke radio's "three minute" barrier.
7. "I won't let you down, no I won't. You know I can if you can honey but, honey, please don't." Which 'Blonde on Blonde' track is this?

Answer: Obviously Five Believers

'Blonde on Blonde' was released May 16th, 1966.
8. "No man alive will come to you, with another tale to tell, and you know that we shall meet again, if your mem'ry serves you well." 'The Basement Tapes' was a Dylan album featuring "The Band," but to which song do these lyrics belong?

Answer: This Wheel's on Fire

The genuine 'Basement Tapes' were recorded Jun-Nov 1967 and included far more tracks than the album of the same name, which was not released until June 26th, 1975.
9. "Well, that mocking bird's gonna sail away, we're gonna forget it. That big fat moon's gonna shine like a spoon.." This is an excerpt from which 'John Wesley Harding' song?

Answer: I'll Be Your Baby Tonight

A strange album by Dylan for sure, many of the songs "are played with the capo around the 5th fret, which produces the high, ringing guitar sound that is so typical of this album (if it's successful is another question).." - Quote taken from www.dylanchords.com. I bought this album at the same time as 'The Freewheelin',' needless to say, I listened to that one a lot more.
10. "For one thing that's certain, you will surely be a-hurtin'.." 1969 saw the shock release of the 'Nashville Skyline' album as Dylan turned from rock to country, but which track have I quoted here?

Answer: I Threw It All Away

Some of the most beautiful songs ever written are contained in this, Dylan's 9th offering (1969), including a re-recording of 'Girl from the North Country' with Johnny Cash.
11. "So run here babe, put your little hand in mine. I got something to tell you, I know you're gonna change your mind." From the album all Dylan fans try to pretend never happened; which 'Self Portrait' song is this?

Answer: It Hurts Me Too

Yes, I'm afraid Dylan took leave of his senses in making this 1970 album, the man who single-handedly gave rise to the term "singer-songwriter" released an album with 24 songs on it, only 10 of which he wrote!
12. "My best friend said, "now didn' I warn ya, Brighton girls are like the moon, Brighton girls are like the moon." This is a quote from which song on the 'New Morning' album?

Answer: Sign on the Window

'New Morning' was recorded and released in 1970.
13. "You're beautiful beyond words, you're beautiful to me." These are lines from 'Planet Waves,' but from which song?

Answer: Never Say Goodbye

'Planet Waves' was Dylan's first official album with "The Band" and was labelled as sounding "unfinished and unrehearsed," yet it was Dylan's first #1 album!
14. "We had a falling-out, like lovers often will, and to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill." These are lines from 'Blood On The Tracks,' but from which song?

Answer: If You See Her, Say Hello

'Blood On The Tracks' was Dylan's second #1 album, even going platinum! "Sadness and loss permeate this record" according to www.warr.org, who rate it as a 5-star album!
15. "Don't turn away, you'll create sorrow. Time is an ocean but it ends at the shore, you may not see me tomorrow." Which 'Desire' track contains these lyrics?

Answer: Oh, Sister

That's one of the finest pieces of song writing I've ever heard, so I had to get it in somewhere. 'Desire,' released 1976, was another commercial success after 'Blood On The Tracks.' However, unfortunately he then went a little "cuck-oo" for much of the 80's, so we rejoin our story in 1989.
16. "For they're deep and they're wide, and the world's on its side, and time is running backwards and so is the bride." Which 'Oh Mercy' track contains these lyrics?

Answer: Ring Them Bells

'Oh Mercy' was hailed as Dylan's return to form on September 22nd 1989, 13 years after he'd released 'Desire!'
17. "Don't say 'murder,' don't say 'kill.' It was destiny, it was God's will." This is from 'The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3' album, what's the song called?

Answer: Who Killed Davey Moore?

"This is a song about a boxer... It's got nothing to do with boxing... This is taken out of the newspapers. Nothing has been changed, except the words." - Bob Dylan's spoken intro at the Halloween Show (1964) before playing 'Who Killed Davey Moore?'
18. "Many days you have lingered all around my cabin door." This song's from the 'Good As I Been To You' album of 1992, can you name the song in question?

Answer: Hard Times

Great to hear a Dylan album that's simply Dylan on vocals, guitar and harmonica, one of my favourites.
19. "Strange things have happened, like never before. My baby told me, I would have to go. I can't be good no more, once like I did before." This is one of the tracks from the 'World Gone Wrong' album, but do you know which one?

Answer: World Gone Wrong

Very much in the same mould as 'Good As I Been To You' with a bunch of little-known folk songs arranged brilliantly by Dylan.
20. "She wrote me a letter, and she wrote it so kind. She put down in writing what was in her mind." This is one of the 'Time Out Of Mind' tracks, but do you know which one?

Answer: Not Dark Yet

This 1997 album won 3 grammies, 'nough said!
