Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year was this album released?

Answer: 1975

"Crisis" came out in November 1975. Several songs on the album, however, were heard before the album's release in a live performance recorded by the BBC. These were "Lady", "Another Man's Woman", "Sister Moonshine", and "Just a Normal Day".
2. Which song on this album features both Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies on lead vocals? (One of the aforementioned singing a few back-up lines doesn't count.)

Answer: Just a Normal Day

This is one of the few Supertramp songs in which the vocals are shared equally between Hodgson and Davies. It was written primarily by Rick Davies, with Roger Hodgson contributing the repeated verse which he sings on the record.
3. What does the opening track "Easy Does it" begin with?

Answer: Whistling

A nice little song. The whistling was likely done by sax player John Helliwell, who was usually seen doing whistling parts in songs such as "Goodbye Stranger" in live Supertramp performances.
4. "Ain't nobody but me gonna _______" Which of the following does NOT fit in the blank, according to the lyrics of the song?

Answer: buy for you

The Rick Davies lyric goes:

"Ain't nobody but me
Gonna lie for you
Gonna die for you
Ain't no fish in the sea
Gonna sigh for you
Gonna try for you
Gonna lie for you
Gonna die for you"
5. Which "Crisis" track does NOT also appear on the live "Paris" album from 1980?

Answer: Another Man's Woman

"Another Man's Woman" was performed at the concert in Paris, but could not be fitted onto the live album. Another version, however, was included on the live album, "It Was the Best of Times", recorded in London in 1997, and also on a bootleg live recording entitled, "Is Everybody Listening?" recorded in 1975 and released in 2001.
6. The lyric, "Just look at the sadness, I wish I could cry," is from which song?

Answer: The Meaning

This masterpiece was written and sung by Roger Hodgson. Most of Supertramp's music, though credited to Davies/Hodgson, was written alone by either songwriter. The only true collaborations between the two were in the early days of the band, and in the song "School" from "Crime of the Century". This was much like the partnership between Lennon and McCartney in the Beatles, who wrote a lot of their later songs separately, though continuing to share the writing credit.

"...You're watching the movie go blistering by
Just look at the sadness, I wish I could cry
Well maybe there's something, just one thing that I should have said.
Well it better be said."
7. Which song on the album mentions the name "Mary"?

Answer: A Soapbox Opera

Roger Hodgson has used the name "Mary" in several of the songs he's written, notably "Along Came Mary" from his 2000 solo album "Open the Door". In an interview, Hodgson said that Mary is "just a beautiful name to sing". (this interview can be found here: http://www.bambamscorner.nl/id40.htm)

"Mary, oh tell me what I'm living for
'Cause I feel like I'm tossed in the river
Have you a son to deliver
I said, Father Washington, you're all mixed up
Collecting sinners in an old tin cup
You tell the children what they need to know
But will they listen when it's time to go"
8. The line, "How can we all afford to live like you?" is from which song?

Answer: Poor Boy

Another of Rick Davies' contributions to the album.

"Well, that is not the way I'm gonna be,
Don't mind the rain, don't mind snow, don't mind nothin'
If I know,
You will be right here with me
We'll let her stay, don't mind a point of view,
How can we all afford to live like you;
This life is simply not enough,
We have no grievances, we must be tough"
9. "...building dreams in a stranger's land" is from which song?

Answer: Two of Us

One of my personal favourite Supertramp songs. A version of this can be found on the "Paris" live album. It is noticeably shorter than the studio version, because it's missing the woodwind solo, which in my opinion is one of the best parts of the song.
10. Finally, after this masterpiece was created, what album did Supertramp go on to make next?

Answer: Even in the Quietest Moments

"Even in the Quietest Moments" was released in April 1977, and included one of the most well known Supertramp songs, "Give a Little Bit". This was followed by "Breakfast in America", the band's best-selling album (selling worldwide 18 million copies); "Paris", the live album; and "...Famous Last Words...", the last album with songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist Roger Hodgson. "Crime of the Century" was released before "Crisis? What Crisis?", in 1974.
