"Lonely Teardrops" was a lament about the singer's plea that his lady return to him post haste. Jackie Wilson's original version went to Number One on the Billboard R&B charts, and made it to Number 315 in Rolling Stone's compilation of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Michael Jackson recorded the song in 1986, and revealed that Jackie Wilson was one of his main influences. Such notables as Elvis Presley (who was a personal friend of Wilson) and Bruce Springsteen also named the great black singer as one of their inspirations.
