David's mother is from Honduras, and his father is from the Basque region of Spain. David came by his musical talent naturally as both his parents are musically inclined. His dad plays jazz trumpet, while his mom is versed in singing and Latin dance. She has duetted with David on tour.

He returned and amid press, David sang again for family who had lost their dads, brothers, Uncles... the men in their lives. He sang "I Will Always Love You".

He had a hard choice to make between risky surgery, and trying to rehabilitate the cord through vocal therapy. David chose the therapy.
