David's mother is from Honduras, and his father is from the Basque region of Spain. David came by his musical talent naturally as both his parents are musically inclined. His dad plays jazz trumpet, while his mom is versed in singing and Latin dance. She has duetted with David on tour.

In fact David sang twice for them at their station house. On September 10, 2002 David sang as part of a memorial for 15 firefighters who had lost their lives in the line of duty during the attacks on the "Twin Towers". He was invited to come back the following day.

He returned and amid press, David sang again for family who had lost their dads, brothers, Uncles... the men in their lives. He sang "I Will Always Love You".

At the invitation of Orrin and Elaine Hatch, David Archuleta was the morning keynote speaker at "The Utah Conference For Women" on October 26, 2009. David gave a spirited nearly 50 minute speech for his audience. Also on the program were Mrs. Laura Bush and pianist Roger Williams.

Yep! David competed against Alexandrea on "Star Search". When she was voted off "American Idol" February 28 2008, it moved him to tears. David has such a kind heart for such an unforgiving industry.

During his run on "Star Search" David had already begun to experience bronchitis, an illness where the airway to the lungs becomes obstructed in some way. He was later diagnosed with vocal cord paralysis and told a virus from the bronchitis could have been the culprit. David feared his singing career was over before it really got started.

He had a hard choice to make between risky surgery, and trying to rehabilitate the cord through vocal therapy. David chose the therapy.

"Dream Sky High" was written for David by his father Jeff (Archuleta) and Sunny Hilden. The song was to be included in his first album. No, not "David Archuleta". David was suppose to do an album after "Star Search". However, he was diagnosed with the vocal cord paralysis and David underwent a difficult time in his young life and burgeoning music career.

"Melodies of Christmas" was written by David Archuleta for his 2009 Christmas album "Christmas from the heart". The song is also featured in the 2010 "Men of Christmas" album.

Published in the summer of 2010 by a division of Penguin Books, David Archuleta gives us a look inside his life through age 19. At a time when most adolescents and teens should be enjoying being a kid, David was hard at work on one of his passions, music.
