Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starting at the beginning, with what we know for sure. Jimi Hendrix was known for a bit of his partying, maybe more so than others. And because of this, he died in the flat of a German girlfriend in London on September 18, 1970. In his autopsy, it showed that Hendrix had swallowed nine barbiturate pills, eighteen times the recommended dosage. And with that, the autopsy also revealed "massive" quantities of what liquid, found in his stomach and also in his lungs?
2. Now on to the conspiracy theories, first starting with Jimi's girlfriend, Monika Dannemann. She had woken up that morning and saw that Hendrix was asleep, from there she went out for a couple of cigarettes. When she returned, Hendrix was in hysterics. He was having trouble breathing. So in a rush of panic, Dannemann called Eric Burdon, a musician whom they had partied with the night before. At first he had hung up on her, and then, once he called back, he insisted on having Dannemann call an ambulance. Later she told the press that Hendrix was alive when the ambulance arrived a few minutes later, about 11:30 in the a.m., and that she rode with him to the hospital. He had suffocated on the way.
Now the kicker, the ambulance attendants saw the situation differently. In fact, according to author James Rotondi, the two men arrived at the apartment to find it empty, except for Hendrix lying in a mess on the bed, already dead. The autopsy cautiously concludes that the exact cause and time of death are unknown, but that it is to a time of death much earlier than what the girlfriend said. In fact, possibly several hours before the ambulance had gotten there. What was Dannemann trying cover up? Well, the world may never know, because Dannemann died in 1996. Now my question is - how did she die?
3. These next couple of questions deal with a top conspiracy theory that a lot of deaths center around, JFK, John Lennon, and Janis Joplin, for example. Of course, I'm talking about the government. First off, in a book by author Alex Constantine, it says Hendrix's FBI file reveals that Hendrix was on a list of "subversives" to be placed in detainment camps in the event of a national emergency. What was Constantine's book called?
4. What was the government mainly known as in the 1960s, by rebellious youths?
5. As well as with the government, the mob is a well-known group that is associated with numerous conspiracy theories, like the death of Jimmy Hoffa. Anyway, organized crime figures were involved with the music industry long before Hendrix was. To the Mob, music didn't matter, all that did was money and drugs, which Hendrix had plenty of. Now, according to Alex Constantine, Hendrix was muscled by the Mob at least twice. Once, after declining an invitation to play at the Salvation, a New York night club controlled by the Gambino crime family. The other time Hendrix was kidnaped from the Salvation by some thugs claiming to be with the Mafia. Hendrix was taken to a Manhattan apartment and was told to call his manager and relay a demand to transfer his contract to the Mob. What happened was, Hendrix ended up being saved by his manager who sent men to rescue Hendrix from the thugs. Later, Hendrix told people that he thought his manager had something to do with it and arranged the whole thing. Now, who was Hendrix's manager?
6. Speaking of Hendrix's manager, he wound up being boasted of among the underworld in his later years, including the years spent with Hendrix. Now, in the 1950s Hendrix's manager was alledgedly a part of a certain orgazination, similar to the FBI. What group was it?
7. Because Hendrix didn't feel right by his manager's side anymore, he tried to make arrangements to cancel his management contract. But before he could, he died. Now, what makes his manager seem even more shaky is the fact that he took out a life insurance policy on Hendrix. How much did he take out?
8. Hendrix's manager may have been the cause for Hendrix's death, but he couldn't have done it directly, considering the fact that he was vacationing in Spain when Hendrix died. More to this, Hendrix's manager would later die under unusual circumstances less than three years after Hendrix's death. What freak accident killed Hendrix's manager?
9. Coming up on our last couple of questions, this next question has to deal with Hendrix's last song, "The Story of Life." What are the last lines to this song?
10. Finally we reach the last question of Hendrix's conspiracy theory and last moments of life. And with that, here it is: how many studio albums did he release during his lifetime?
