Answer: Purple Haze

"Purple Haze" was the second single released by Jimi Hendrix and probably his best known song (the first single appears later in this quiz). Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it number two on its list of the greatest guitar songs of all time.

Answer: Manic Depression

Many are quick to point out that the lyrics do not describe manic depression at all, but rather simple "romantic frustration". The lyrics in full seem to describe a man who wishes to make love to the music he is playing and is frustrated by his inability to do so (figuratively or literally, you decide):

"Woman so willing, the sweet cause in vain,
You make love,
You break love,
It's all the same when it's
When it's over.
Music sweet music,
I wish I could caress, caress, caress."

The single "Hey Joe" peaked at number six in the UK charts, but failed to make much of an impact in the US. The Hendrix cover of the song remains the best known and most popular version. It appeared on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" at number 201. It was also the last song to be performed at the 1969 Woodstock music festival.
4. The fourth track on "Are You Experienced?" is a lesser known song, but no less powerful. Answer: Love or Confusion

The Jimi Hendrix Experience was comprised of three people, with Jimi Hendrix on lead vocals and guitars. Noel Redding played bass and sang backup. Mitch Mitchell beat the drums and also performed backing vocals.
5. The fifth track of "Are You Experienced?" shows a softer side of Jimi Hendrix. What is the name of the ballad with the following lyrics? (Hint: The title of the song never appears in the lyrics.) 6. This song, the sixth track of the North American Version of "Are You Experienced?", contains the following lyrics. Name it. "No sun comin' through my windows Feel like I'm livin' at the bottom of a grave No sun comin' through my windows Feel like I'm livin' at the bottom of a grave I wish you'd hurry up and execute me So I can be on my miserable way"

Answer: I Don't Live Today

The music for this song was recorded on February 20, 1967 at De Lane Lea Studios. The lyrics were later overdubbed by Hendrix at Olympic.

The song is dedicated to Native Americans and other ethnic minorities (Hendrix was part Cherokee).

According to author Sean Egan, Hendrix "superbly, and with great economy of words evok[ed] despair, whether that despair be an individual's or the despair of a devastated and brutalized race."

Answer: Fire

Interestingly, "Fire" was apparently inspired by a rather pedestrian event that occurred at the house of Noel Redding's mother. Hendrix was invited to the house on a cold New Year's Eve after they had played a gig. According to the story, he asked Noel's mother if he could stand next to the fireplace.

She consented, but her dog was in the way. If the story is true, he then uttered the famous line: "Aw, move over, Rover, and let Jimi take over".
9. Track Nine, "Third Stone From the Sun", is mostly instrumental, so how about we skip to the tenth track. If you're a "Wayne's World" fan, you should have no problem. Can you name the song given the following lyrics? "I wanna take you home I won't do you no harm, no You've got to be all mine, all mine ..."

Answer: Foxey Lady

"Foxey Lady" (sometimes spelled correctly: "Foxy Lady") was the third US single by Jimi Hendrix and was rated at Number 153 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

According to one music critic, "if one song could be said to encapsulate Hendrix's entire oeuvre, 'Foxey Lady' is certainly closer than most."
10. Finally, the last track on "Are You Experienced?" is the title song. Can you name it based on these lyrics? "I know, I know You'll probably scream and cry That your little world won't let go"

Answer: Are You Experienced

The title song of "Are You Experienced?" is of course "Are You Experienced?". Hope that did not give you too many fits! The song was recorded in London at the Olympic Sound Studios on April 3, 1967, the last day of recording for the album. According to Wikipedia, "It features recorded guitar and drum parts that are played backwards and a repeating piano chord, but no bass."
