Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Mike Portnoy in his high school yearbook, what did he want to be when he got older?

Answer: the next Neil Peart

He even signed his name "Mike Peartnoy".
2. What song got its name from the original group name for Dream Theater?

Answer: Ytse Jam

The band was originally called Majesty, but had to change its name because another group already claimed that name. "Ytse Jam" (an instrumental) is Majesty spelled backwards.
3. How many parts are there in "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" off of the album of the same name?

Answer: 8

I. "Overture" II. "About To Crash" III. "War Inside My Head" IV. "The Test That Stumped Them All' V. "Goodnight Kiss" VI. "Solitary Shell" VII. "About To Crash (reprise)" VIII. "Losing Time/Grand Finale"
4. Liquid Tension Experiment is a side project of Mike Portnoy.

Answer: True

Mike also plays in another side-project "TransAtlantic". However, as pointed out to me by a fellow DT fan, Neal not Mike was the mastermind behind creating "TransAtlantic".
5. The Trilogy "Erotomania", "Voices" and "The Silent Man" is also known as what?

Answer: A Mind Beside Itself

"Erotomania" is considered one of the top ten rock instrumentals of all time. I have no proof to back that up, just various website chatter.
6. Who was the keyboardist for the "Awake" album?

Answer: Kevin Moore

Derek Sherinian and Jordan Rudess have replaced Moore since. Kevin Moore did the majority of the writing for that album.
7. Who was the original singer for Dream Theatre's debut studio album?

Answer: Charlie Dominici

Charlie sang on the first studio album, later replaced by Jason LaBrie. Doug Pinnick is part of King's X who have toured with DT on occasions. Chris Collins sang with them in their college days when they were known as Mirage.
8. James LaBrie is Canadian.

Answer: True

Just another great thing to come out of Canada adding to the list of hockey, Rush and beer.
9. Where did Portnoy, Petrucci and Myung go to college?

Answer: Berklee

I couldn't put Berklee College of Music, otherwise it would have been too easy. The trio got together there and started off as Mirage.
10. Who is given credit for the symbol that is on every one of DT's albums?

Answer: Mary Queen of Scots

It is the Majesty symbol (the band's original name) used by Mary Queen of Scots. Not really sure how, but that's where it came from.
