Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This band followed up their hit remake of a Burt Bacharach song with this single containing the line, "On and on we laughed like kids at all the silly things we did.".

Answer: Naked Eyes, "Promises Promises"

After the 1983 success of this song and "Always Something There to Remind Me", Naked Eyes bombed with their second album, 1984's "Fuel for the Fire", before calling it quits.
2. This singer's second mostly-German hit about another Austrian musician came four years after his first US hit which contained that memorable line, "Dreh' dich nicht um...".

Answer: Falco

After 1982's "Der Kommissar", Falco hit it big again in 1986 with "Rock Me Amadeus". Tragically, Falco was killed in a 1998 car accident.
3. Before 1986's "The Lady in Red", this British art rocker had a modest hit in 1983 with the early MTV classic, "Don't Pay the Ferryman".

Answer: Chris de Burgh

While not in the same league as David Hasselhoff's legendary popularity in Germany, Chris de Burgh found much greater international success in Brazil, Norway and Canada than in the US or his native UK.
4. While not as successful as his immensely popular "Electric Avenue", Eddy Grant made the US charts one more time with this title track from a hit movie.

Answer: Romancing the Stone

Grant was apparently upset that this song was barely used in the Michael Douglas/Danny De Vito/Kathleen Turner 80's classic.
5. Their 1982 MTV hit "Twilight Zone" came a full eight years after their first US hit, "Radar Love".

Answer: Golden Earring

Popular in their native Netherlands since the 1960's, Golden Earring's second and last US hit featured great guitar lines and barely decipherable lyrics like "My beacon's been moved under moon and star.".
6. Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" was on 1984's "Footloose" soundtrack, but her first big eighties hit was this song.

Answer: Total Eclipse of the Heart

The video featured some of the worst special effects ever seen on TV, specifically the infamous "bright eyes" on the choir boy. In addition to these two eighties hits, Tyler made the US charts with "It's a Heartache" in 1978.
7. This artist first gained attention for 1981's "Kids in America" and later hit number one in the US with a remake of The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On".

Answer: Kim Wilde

Wilde later developed a keen interest in gardening, receiving a Gold award in 2005 from the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show (which, by the way, is a surprisingly cool event to visit if you're ever in London in the spring).
8. While 1985's "Never Surrender" was also a hit, this first single remains Corey Hart's signature early 80's classic.

Answer: Sunglasses at Night

Somehow, having only two hits did not stop Hart from releasing a Singles collection in 1992 AND a "Best of Corey Hart" compilation in 1998, with every song except one ("Dancin' With My Mirror") already available on the earlier collection.
9. This UK band with an androgynous lead singer actually scored three hits in the mid-80's with "Brand New Lover", "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" and a cover of the KC and the Sunshine Band disco classic, "That's the Way (I Like It)".

Answer: Dead or Alive

After virtually disappearing from the mainstream US and UK music scenes in the late 80's, Dead or Alive apparently developed a huge following in Japan.
10. Before enjoying some success in TV and film, this pop/rap star with the deep, gravelly voice had two smash singles in 1989 and introduced us to the "Funky Cold Medina".

Answer: Tone Loc

Following the huge hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina", Tone Loc has remained active in movies and TV, appearing in or lending his unmistakable voice to films such as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and "Ferngully - The Last Rainforest".
