Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whom did Kentucky love?

Answer: Danny Bailey

From the song "The Ballad of Danny Bailey (1909-34)" from the album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" (1973). Contrary to what most people think when they look at the title, Danny Bailey is a fictional character. The song talks about a young man who most likely was in trouble during the prohibition period, and for that he was shot "in the lobby of a downtown motel".
2. Where is it that "the green grass sways and the cool wind blows across the shadow of their graves"?

Answer: oceans away

From the song "Oceans Away" from the album "The Diving Board" (2013). A very successful album 40 years after "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Curiously, the song "Rotten Peaches" has a verse that goes "there ain't no green grass in a U.S. state prison". "The Diving Board" is a sensational album. It goes back to basics with piano, bass and drums, rarely anything else.
3. What did the singer find on the street today?

Answer: a black beret

From the song "Cry to Heaven" from the album "Ice on Fire" (1985). This album, although not very successful in the U.S., contained hit songs such as "Nikita", "Wrap Her Up" and "This Town". George Michael sang backup on "Nikita" and "Wrap Her Up".
4. When was it that the singer "turned off the light switch" and went "down to meet you in the half light the moon left"?

Answer: in the quiet silent seconds

From the song "Come Down in Time" from the album "Tumbleweed Connection" (1970). The album is one which explores Elton and Bernie's connection to country music. This particular song is about the questioning of the authenticity of the relationship that this man and his partner are having.
5. Who "needs a man who's young to walk him around"?

Answer: Razor Face

From the song "Razor Face" from the album "Madman Across the Water" (1971). One of Elton's personal favorites, "Madman" as fans call it, is also the name of Elton's yacht. "Madman" displays such hits as "Tiny Dancer" and "Levon". The song "Madman Across the Water", Elton's favorite track on the album, was set to be released on the "Tumbleweed Connection" album.
6. Who "goes to church to pray for Lucifer" and "milked the male population clean"?

Answer: Louise

From the song "No Shoestrings on Louise" from the album "Elton John" (1970). This was the first Elton album released in the U.S., but not in the world. The album contains some of Elton's biggest hits, such as "Your Song", "Take Me to the Pilot" and "Border Song". "Border Song" was covered by Aretha Franklin in 1972.
7. What did the singer do since he was young?

Answer: read the writing of the smoke and breastfed on the sound of drums

From the song "Indian Sunset" from the album "Madman Across the Water" (1971). This song talks about the fight of the Native American Indians for their land. On this song, Taupin uses his poetic license when he writes "Geronimo was dead,
he'd been laying down his weapons when they filled him full of lead". The famous Apache Geronimo was not gunned down, he died of pneumonia in 1909.
8. What is the singer tired of being linked to?

Answer: the K.G.B.

From the song "Fascist Faces" from the album "The Fox" (1981). Not a very successful album among critics, but a masterpiece in the eyes of the Elton/Bernie fanbase. The song has a promo video.
9. Who heard your sins at St. Patrick's every Sunday?

Answer: Father Fletcher

From the song "Ticking" from the album "Caribou" (1974). An absolutely amazing song, appreciated by every Elton John fan. This song talks about a young man who takes hostages in a "downtown bar" and ends up killing some of them, which results in his death as he was "pumped ... full of rifle shells" as he "stepped out the door".

This song may have been inspired by the Whitman shooting in Texas.
10. Who said "I predict that the world will end at half past six"?

Answer: Nostradamus

From the song "Tinderbox" from the album "The Captain & the Kid" (2006). The song compares Elton and Bernie's partnership to a tinderbox, which was set off by "two sparks" (Elton and Bernie). The album did moderately well, but once again, it did brilliantly in the Elton/Bernie fan community.
