Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I gave a letter to the postman, he put it his sack"

Answer: Return to Sender

The song was performed in 1962. Elvis sang it in the movie "Girls! Girls! Girls!". The song was released in the same year, as part of an album, which had the same name as the movie. It was written by Winfield Scott and Otis Blackwell. The actress and soul singer Gerri Granger recorded an answer song to "Return to Sender", entitled "Don't Want Your Letters".
2. "As the snow flies/ On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'"

Answer: In the Ghetto

The song was originally named "The Vicious Circle". It was written by Mac Davis. It was released in 1969, in the album "From Elvis in Memphis". After Elvis, many other artists performed the song, such as Sammy Davis Jr., Dolly Parton, The Cranberries, etc.

There have also been some parodies of the song, such as one by Paul Shanklin entitled "In a Yugo", where a family of environmentalists buys a Yugo car, only to be killed by a truck driver.
3. "I don't wanna be a tiger/ 'Cause tigers play too rough/ I don't wanna be a lion/ 'Cause lions ain't the kind you love enough"

Answer: Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear

The song was recorded in 1957. It was sung by Elvis for the movie "Loving You". It was one of the most successful songs of its time. Many other artists, including Pat Boone, recorded it after Elvis. In the ABC sitcom "Full House", in early episodes, the three protagonists, Jesse Katsopolis, Danny Tanner and Joey Gladstone sang it to Michelle Tanner to lull her to sleep.
4. "Oh, just because I asked a friend about her/ Just because I spoke her name somewhere"

Answer: She Thinks I Still Care

The song was written by Dickey Lee and Steve Duffy. It was first recorded by George Jones. Elvis recorded it in 1977 and it became the B-side song to "Moody Blue", in the album with the same name. Connie Francis also recorded a version of this song, but the word 'she" was changed into "he" because of her gender.
5. "When I said, I needed you/ You said you would always stay"

Answer: You Don't Have to Say You Love Me

Thw song originated as an Italian song entitled "Io che non vivo (senza te)". Elvis recorded it in 1970, as part of his album "That's the Way It Is". There were other artists who recorded that song, such as Denise Welch and Guys'n Dolls. However, it was not Elvis who first sang the English version, but Dusty Springfield.
6. "You look like an angel/ Walk like an angel/ Talk like an angel"

Answer: Devil in Disguise

The song was recorded in 1963. It was written by Bill Giant, Bernie Baum and Florence Kaye. The song topped the charts in Britain, despite the fact that John Lennon called it "a miss" and stated that Elvis was now like Bing Crosby. The song was later used in the soundtrack of the Disney movie "Lilo & Stitch" at the time when Lilo, a Hawaiian girl, tries to make Stitch, an extraterrestrial creature, a model citizen and uses Elvis as the role model.
7. "I'd been standing on the corner/ Since a quarter after seven"

Answer: Stranger in the Crowd

The song was released by Elvis in his 1970 album, "That's the Way It Is". It was written by Winfield Scott. Scott, alongside Otis Blackwell, had written the lyrics of many other of Elvis' hits, such as "Return to Sender" and "Devil in Disguise". In a special edition of the album, in disc three, among the features there was a live recording of the song.
8. "We're caught in a trap/ I can't walk out"

Answer: Suspicious Minds

The song was recorded in 1969. It was written by Mark James, who was also the first to record it. The song was Elvis' last number-one hit in the USA. In both Mark James' and Elvis' versions, Reggie Young played the guitar. Other artists also recorded this song, for example Dwight Yoakam, Gareth Gates and Waylon Jennings.
9. "You know I can be found/ Sitting home all alone"

Answer: Don't Be Cruel

The song was recorded in 1956. It was written by Otis Blackwell. It became the most commercially successful of all of Elvis' 1956 hits. The song was also recorded by the Beatles more than once from 1959 to 1961, but none of their recordings has survived. However, three former members of the band, John Lennon, Pete Best and Ringo Starr sang their own versions of the song.
10. "Oh, oh, I love you so/ Uh, uh, can't let you go"

Answer: I Need Your Love Tonight

Elvis recorded the song in 1958. It was written by Sid Wayne and Bix Reichner. This song was the first one of a number of singles that were released just prior to Elvis' joining of the US army in Germany. He resumed recording only after returning in the US in 1960. Almost three decades later, in 1985, Alvin and the Chipmunks released their own version of the song, entitled "I Need that Gold Tonight".
