Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Rocky the Rodent", said Mother Mary, that's the tune she loves! You'd think she could remember the correct title of this smash hit from '63.

Answer: SHE LOVES YOU

"Rocky the Rodent", said Mother Mary, that's the tune SHE LOVES YOU'd think she could remember the correct title of this smash hit from '63.

One of five songs played live in February 1964 during The Beatles' legendary performance on "The Ed Sullivan Show".

True Beatles' fans know that McCartney's father Jim was displeased with the slang chorus "yeah, yeah, yeah" and strongly recommended that son Paul change it to "yes, yes, yes".

What a strange twist that would have been.

The song's pulsing title lyric "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" was also sung in the fade out of "All You Need Is Love".
2. The Beatles' last album was "Abbey Street" right? Guess I will have to look up this 1968 tune.

Answer: I WILL

The Beatles' last album was "Abbey Street" right? Guess I WILL have to look up this 1968 tune.

A short, cute track from "The White Album". You'll note that there is no bass guitar on this track, Paul harmonizes the bass line himself. After his break-up with actress Jane Asher, Paul went courting Linda Eastman and later confessed that this was one of the very first songs he wrote about her.
3. The Fabs always sing just how I feel. Fine, great, terrific is this one from their 1964 single, I'd say!

Answer: I FEEL FINE

The Fabs always sing just how I FEEL FINE, great, terrific is this one from their 1964 single, I'd say!

A great, catchy Lennon contribution.

Launched as a single in 1964 at the height of Beatlemania the '45 has "She's A Woman" on the flip. Lennon was often proud of his belief that this was one of the first songs in recorded history, if not THE first, to feature guitar feedback!
4. "The LP from 1965 was very melodic and also one of the group's best films", said Lucy.

Answer: HELP

"tHE LP from 1965 was very melodic and also one of the group's best films", said Lucy.

The song and album were the soundtrack to The Fab Four's second feature length movie after "A Hard Day's Night". An intensely personal and semi-autobiographical tune for John a careful listener will hear the unique format that features the refrain by George/Paul sang BEFORE the lead vocal.
5. Too much over-dubbing and a bad review is what you get. "Back to the basics" said George Martin in 1970.

Answer: GET BACK

Too much over-dubbing and a bad review is what you GET BACK to the basics" said George Martin in 1970.

Another seminal single by the band from 1969 with "Don't Let Me Down" on the B-side. Nearing the end of their career "Get Back" was originally slated as the album title for what came to be known as "Let It Be". Blistering electric piano contributions here from Billy Preston.
6. Paul claimed that George was off key, what was he blaming Harrison for? No one said that this 1966 track was easy to play.

Answer: FOR NO ONE

Is there a sadder Beatles song?

Paul claimed that George was off key, what was he blaming Harrison FOR NO ONE said that this 1966 track was easy to play.

"Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you"

Beautiful and melancholic tune from the album "Revolver" punctuated with the french horn playing of studio musician Alan Civil.
7. In 1970 a mop top time capsule was discovered on the dig. A pony, rocking horse people and Blue Meanie were on the photo inside.

Answer: DIG A PONY

A bizarre track from the "Let It Be" album with lyrics that Lennon later admitted were basically made up on the spot. It includes references to actress Doris Day, blues legend B.B. King and the Scottish football coach of Manchester United Matthew "Matt" Busby.
8. "The coral that lies beneath the waves...Oh what joy for every gal and boy" sound familiar to you, Rita? (1963)

Answer: BOYS

Ringo sings!

Also on The Beatles' debut album, Please Please Me, it was originally recorded by the 1960's American group The Shirelles (of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" fame).

One of the few songs recorded by The Fabs where the name of one of the group members, George in this case, is sung.
9. Dear Sadie please play this 1962 song if you love me. Do you know that the title is sung over eleven times throughout?

Answer: LOVE ME DO

Dear Sadie please play this 1962 song if you LOVE ME DO you know that the title is sung over eleven times throughout

One of the first real songs written by Lennon/McCartney it was penned in 1958 but not recorded until four years later.

A bit of drumming deception going on here, too. The Beatles' new producer was not confident of Ringo's drumming abilities and brought in studio musician Andy White to fill the gap. Poor Ringo was related to maracas. The song was later re-recorded with Ringo in his rightful place behind the kit.

A strange occurrence in that the very simple song is in 4/4 time with the rhythm track consisting of little more than a snare drum, bass drum and cymbal!
10. By 1969 even the lads were surprised at what they'd become. Together they had changed the face of pop music for all time.

Answer: COME TOGETHER

By 1969 even the lads were surprised at what they'd beCOME TOGETHER they had changed the face of pop music for all time.

Remember the opening line, "Here come ol' flattop, he come groovin' up slowly"? Sadly not a line from Lennon's prolific lyrical genius but a line *borrowed* from the song "You Can't Catch Me" by Chuck Berry.

His record company sued for plagiarism after The Beatles released "Abbey Road".

They settled out of court.

Neat stuff, huh?
