Alice Cooper put on some of the most outrageous, dramatic stage shows ever. Every theatrical band owes Vincent Damon Furnier (aka Alice) a debt for starting it all.

The Dead formed in 1965. Keyboardists included Ron "Pigpen" McKernan who died in 1973, Keith Godchaux who left the band in 1979 and died in 1980, Brent Mydland who died in 1990, and Vince Welnick who died in 2006. Bruce Hornsby also played keyboards for a tour but did not join the band. Owsley "Bear" Stanley designed the Wall of Sound. Ken Keasey, author of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", founded the Merry Pranksters and drove "Furthur", the psychedelic bus. Long, strange trip is a lyric from "Truckin", one of the Dead's songs that did get airplay. "The Music Never Stopped" is on the "Blues for Allah" album.

Jethro Tull's music was not considered hard rock or heavy metal so there was much controversy over their winning the award. The following year, Grammy awards were given out in both Hard Rock and Metal categories. In earlier years, Ian Andersen was also known for performing aerial summersaults off a trampoline set up behind the drum kit. Ian sang and played the flute as well as many other instruments.

In 1995 he put out a solo classical album entitled "Divinities: Twelve Dances with God."
