Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "One" was a single released in 1989 by an American band. It was the third single taken from the album "...And Justice For All". What is the name of this band?

Answer: Metallica

"One" was the first top 40 hit for Metallica. It was the single that was issued just before "Enter Sandman" which ensured worldwide popularity for the band. Many rock bands including Korn have covered the song but for something different, I suggest Apocalyptica's cello version.
2. Many bands seem to hesitate about what to call their albums and many bands have simply named their second album "Two" - not very original! Usually the title is presented as Roman numerals (II). Which of the following bands did not name its second album in this way?

Answer: Journey

Journey's second album was called "Look into the Future". The other three bands named their second album "II". "Styx II" was released in 1973; "Queen II" was released in 1974 and "Led Zeppelin II" was released in 1969.
3. Lynryd Skynyrd released their debut album in 1973. Complete the name of one of the band's best known songs that feature on this album "Gimme Three...."

Answer: Steps

Although the song "Gimme Three Steps" was released as a single, it did not achieve chart success. However the success of the single "Free Bird" from the same album projected the band into the limelight and "Gimme Three Steps" has since become one of the fans' favourite songs.
4. "4" is the name of an album released in 1981. It contains the successful singles "Urgent", "Waiting for a Girl Like You" and "Juke Box Hero". Who released this album?

Answer: Foreigner

This album was hugely successful worlwide. In America, the album held the top spot for ten weeks and has sold over seven million copies in the US.
5. The Doors released their album "Waiting for the Sun" in 1968. Complete the name of this song taken from this album, "Five to _______"

Answer: One

"Five to One" is the closing track on the album. As is often the case with lyrics penned by Jim Morrison, various interpretations have been given to the song. Is it an incitement to riot or a put down of the flower power generation or still does it have sexual connotations. Whatever interpretation you decide to give it, it does nothing to detract from the music.
6. You Me at Six is the name of a British rock band who achieved success with their debut album "Take off Your Colours".

Answer: True

The album was issued in 2008 and contained songs such as "Kiss and Tell" and "Finders Keepers" both of which were released as singles. Both singles reached the top fifty in the UK. The album was certified gold in the UK and was well received by critics.
7. Many consider this song as the turning point of Queen's (the band) career. Originally included as an instrumental closure on their debut album, it was expanded into a full song for the second album. Choose the correct name of this song.

Answer: Seven Seas of Rhye

The song was premièred on Top of the Pops in 1974 before it was issued as a single. It was issued two days after its première and thanks to airplay on BBC, it reached the top ten in the UK heralding the arrival of this great band which was to produce so many great songs during the following years. (Hard to think that the band members such as Mercury and May were still not so sure about whether they should pledge their future to the band.
8. "Eight Days a Week" is a Beatles' single penned by Lennon/McCartney. On which Beatles album did the song originally appear?

Answer: Beatles for Sale

The song was released as a single only in the US where it reached the number one spot. Different versions of albums released in the UK and the US meant that the song was not included on the US album "Beatles '65" and DJs played the song from the smuggled "Beatles for Sale" UK album. After the single's success, it was included in the next US album "Beatles VI".
9. "#9 Dream" was a 1974 single. Which ex-Beatle released this song?

Answer: John Lennon
