Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "My kith and kin, oh I have sinned."

Answer: "London, Can You Wait"

All four of these answers are great songs by Gene. If I had to pick the best of the four, I would probably go for "You'll Never Walk Again".
2. "We'll see blood soon when the night's through"

Answer: "Sleep Well Tonight"

"Sleep Well Tonight" is my favourite Gene song. It can be found on the album "To See The Lights".
3. "But with you on my arm, no the feeling's not gone"

Answer: "You'll Never Walk Again"

"As Good As It Gets" is one of Gene's more political songs. It suggests that the election of the Labour Party in 1997 was bad for Britain.
4. "I've given my all for you"

Answer: "Olympian"

"Olympian" is a brilliant love song from the album of the same title. However, a better version can be found on "To See The Lights".
5. "Slow down my love"

Answer: "Stop"

"Stop" is another love song. It is about a man begging his girlfriend not to leave him. "Don't Let Me Down" was originally a Beatles song. The Gene version is a pretty good cover.
6. "My blood's flowing like a flood"

Answer: "Fighting Fit "

"Fighting Fit" was the first single to be released off of the album "Drawn To The Deep End". It is a really catchy tune.
7. "Let it be my night"

Answer: "Be My Light, Be My Guide"

"Be My Light, Be My Guide" is one of Gene's rockier songs. If I had to compare Gene to another band I would say they were most like The Smiths.
8. "I'm Wondering What Clothes To Wear Now"

Answer: "Say A Little Prayer"

I was hoping to catch you out here because in the Aretha Franklin version of the song she says "dress", whereas Gene say "clothes".
9. "Everyone's just walking away from me"

Answer: "For The Dead"

"For The Dead" is definitely among my top five Gene songs. I should warn you though- it is not a song to listen to when you are feeling a bit down.
10. "You can't have it all, there's a hole in the wall"

Answer: "Sleep Well Tonight"

My favourite song sneaks in as the right answer again. Gene covered The Jam song "A Town Called Malice" for the compilation album "Fire And Skill: The Songs Of The Jam".
