Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Die Perfekte Welle

Answer: Juli

"Die Perfekte Welle" peaked at number two in Germany and Austria in 2004. As the song means "The Perfect Wave" in English, it was no longer played on the radio after the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.
2. Du Hast

Answer: Rammstein

Despite protests to the contrary, "Du Hast" is simply a song about a man unwilling to get married. Phrases like "Willst du bis der Tod euch scheidet, Treu ihr sein für alle Tage?" are simply the German equivalent to the traditional American vow of "to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
3. Schrei nach Liebe

Answer: Die Ärzte

Released in 1993, the song attacks the rise of Neo-Nazi and other far-right extremist activity in Germany that was occurring at the time. The song initially only reached number nine on the German charts, but reentered the charts in 2015 and reached number one as extremist groups were again on the rise.
4. Pushed Again

Answer: Die Toten Hosen

Reaching number four on the German charts, "Pushed Again" deals with violence, oppression and brutality by both governments and people themselves the world over in the latter half of the 20th century. The song is written from the perspective of somebody who is tired of the oppression and is nearing his breaking point.
5. Die Eine

Answer: Die Firma

Originally released as a single in 1996, this hip-hop song reached number two on the German singles chart when it was re-released in 2005. The premise of the song is that the singer already has a woman he loves ("The One") and doesn't want anybody or anything else.
6. Major Tom (Coming Home)

Answer: Peter Schilling

Written as a sequel of sorts to David Bowie's "Space Oddity", the song "Major Tom" reached number one in may European countries when released, and number 14 on the US Hot 100 and number two on the US Dance chart.
7. Forever Young

Answer: Alphaville

Unlike Alphaville's first single, "Big in Japan" which reached number one in Germany and the US Dance Chart, "Forever Young" only reached number 65 on the US Hot 100 and number four in Germany. It is an anti-war song written at a time when US-Soviet relations had deteriorated and the threat of nuclear war once again seemed not so far-fetched.
8. Durch den Monsun

Answer: Tokio Hotel

"Durch den Monsun" ("Through the Monsoon") was a number one hit in Germany and Austria, and reached number six in Belgium in 2005 as the group's first single from their first album, "Schrei" ("Scream"), while an English version only reached number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 when it was released in 2007.
9. Ist deine Liebe echt?

Answer: Blümchen

"Ist deine Liebe echt?" ("Is Your Love Real?") is a techno song released in 2000, appearing on the album "Die Welt gehört dir" ("The World is Yours"). It reached the 24th spot on the German music charts.
10. Flüchtig

Answer: Die Fantastischen Vier

"Flüchtig" ("Fleeting") is a song dealing with the problem of drug addiction and the difficulty of knowing you have an addiction but are unable to quit regardless of that knowledge, instead grasping for the fleeting high you feel when you use drugs as well as how isolated you become from everybody else as the drugs take over your life.
