Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Andrew LLoyd Weber musical first inspired the very young Jackie Evancho to begin singing when her parents took her to see the movie version? The heroine's name is Christine.

Answer: The Phantom of the Opera

Jackie was only seven when she was inspired by this musical and began singing around the house. Her parents and grandparents noticed her unusually pure and mature voice and asked if she would like to try out at a local talent show. She performed the song "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" in her first talent contest (Kean Idol) close to her eighth birthday.
2. Jackie Evancho hails from a suburb of which western Pennsylvania metropolis nicknamed "The Steel City"? She is a fan of the local NFL team.

Answer: Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is also the home of another famous singer, the pop star Christina Aguilera. Jackie and her family continued to reside in the Pittsburgh area where she and her three siblings attended regular public school. Nine year old Jackie cutely introduced one of her very early YouTube videos with "Go Pittsburgh Steelers".
3. Jackie made her national debut in 2010 at age ten singing on which popular television talent show? The judges were Howie Mandel, Piers Morgan, and Sharon Osborn.

Answer: America's Got Talent

She sang the Puccini aria "O Mio Babbino Caro" in her first appearance. Both the judges and the audience were astonished that such a pure and powerful voice could come from such a tiny child.
4. Jackie Evancho's first release on a major record label (Columbia) came in November, 2010. It sold over one million copies and was certified platinum before the end of that year. What was this holiday themed album?

One of Jackie's claims to fame is that "O Holy Night" made her the youngest solo artist ever to go platinum, some four months before her eleventh birthday.
5. In her early career Jackie was often incorrectly labelled as the "youngest opera singer". Which musical genre is a more appropriate term for her music?

Answer: Classical Crossover

Classical crossover is a genre with strong classical influences but which draws from such diverse areas as light arias, traditional songs, classic show tunes, and film scores. These tunes are orchestrated and sung with either tenor or soprano voice or as duets like "Time to Say Goodbye".

A list of well known Classical Crossover singers would include Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Katherine Jenkins, and Josh Groban,
6. Jackie's first PBS special was "Dream With Me in Concert". It was filmed on the grounds of the John and Mabel Ringling estate. This estate is in which southern USA city that served as the winter quarters for the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus from 1927 until 1958?

Answer: Sarasota, Florida

The Ringling Estate houses a fine art museum, a circus museum, and John and Mable Ringling's Ca'd'Zan mansion as well as numerous gardens and a waterfront. The concert itself was staged in the courtyard of the Museum of Art but segments were filmed around the grounds and edited in for the broadcast presentation.

PBS has broadcast two additional Jackie Evancho "Great Performances" concerts: "Music of the Movies" filmed at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles (2012) and "Awakening" at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania (2014).
7. Jackie Evancho has recorded some lovely duets with a variety of legendary performers that are outside her musical genre. With which legendary singer did she duet "When You Wish Upon a Star"?

Answer: Tony Bennett

Tony Bennett and Jackie sang "When You Wish Upon a Star" for Tony's "Duets II" album. A Barbra Streisand/Jackie Evancho duet of "Somewhere" is included on "Dream With Me". Legendary tenor Jose Carreras and Jackie united for an "Ave Marie" duet in Taiwan but it was not recorded for an album.

Other duets have been with Susan Boyle, the Tenors, jazz trumpeter Jumaane Smith, Katherine Jenkins, Peter Hollens, Vittorio Gigolo, Sarah Brightman and several others.

Although Jackie has often mentioned a wistful wish to duet with Lady Gaga this had not happened as of the end of 2014.

She once performed at a special outdoor concert before 100,000 in June 2012 held in conjunction with the World Economic Conference in which European city? Hint: Baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky and soprano Sumi Jo also sang.

Answer: St. Petersburg, Russia

Miss Evancho's young age and school schedule limits her concert schedule to about 25 events per year primarily around the United State and Canada. But Jackie has been able to travel internationally with appearances in Russia, Great Britain, Japan, Costa Rica, Bali, and Taiwan.

The St Petersburg concert was held in Palace Square and featured opera stars Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Korean soprano Sumi Jo as well as then 12 year old Jackie Evancho.
9. Before she achieved such widespread exposure on national television, nine year old Jackie and her family self-produced an album at a local recording studio. What was this now highly collectible album? A hint is in the name.

Answer: Prelude to A Dream

"Prelude to a Dream" was released in November, 2009. Although sales boomed after Jackie's appearance on "America's Got Talent" the Evanchos decided to withdraw it from circulation in 2010 citing Jackie's distinctive vocal progress since the album had been recorded a year earlier.

"PTAD" (as it is known) is a highly desirable collectible among Jackie fans and an authentic signed copy has been known to sell for up to $3000.
10. Jackie Evancho has been honored with invitations to sing at several important events in Washington, DC. At which large outdoor 2010 event attended by President Obama and his family did she sang "O Holy Night"?
