Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sheena Easton had tremendous success in the United States, but she was not born there. What country is her place of birth?

Answer: Scotland

She was born Sheena Shirley Orr in Bellshill, Scotland on April 27, 1959. This made her a bit too old when she tried to audition for the part of an orphan in a production of "Annie" in the 1970's.
2. Sheena's first hit song in the United States went all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. What was the title?

Answer: "Morning Train (Nine to Five)"

The song had already become a hit titled "Nine to Five" when it was released in the U.K. However, Dolly Parton had an even bigger hit in 1980 with the theme song to the movie of the same title, so it became known as "Morning Train" in the U.S.A. to avoid confusion.
3. As her singing career was blossoming, Sheena was tapped to sing the theme song for a James Bond movie. She even appeared in the opening credits. Which James Bond film was it?

Answer: For Your Eyes Only

Songwrites Bill Conti and Michael Leeson received an Academy Award nomination for their respective music and lyrics. Sheena performed the song at the 52nd Annual Academy Awards telecast. But the award that year would go to Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, Christopher Cross, and Peter Allen for "Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)", sung by Cross.
4. In 1983, Sheena recorded a remake of Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight" as a duet with another vocalist. Who was her duet partner?

Answer: Kenny Rogers

Rogers had already recorded successful duets with Dottie West and Kim Carnes. His and Sheena's recording of "We've Got Tonight" would reach #1 on Billboard's U.S. Country charts and #6 on the pop charts (Billboard Hot 100). Rogers would go on to even greater success with Dolly Parton with the song, "Islands in the Stream". It topped both charts.
5. Sheena's album "Best Kept Secret" yielded two hit songs for her. One was the ballad "Almost Over You" and the other was an uptempo song. What was the title of Sheena's 1983 hit from "Best Kept Secret"?

Answer: Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)

The other choices are all singles from previous Sheena Easton albums. "Telefone" was coincidentally released as a single in the U.S.A. just as the Bell telephone companies were breaking up partnership with A.T.&T., opening up long distance telephone service to other companies for competitive pricing.

In the more than two decades since, the companies have started merging back together again.
6. Just as she started growing out her famously short hairstyle, Sheena released the album "A Private Heaven." It could have been titled "The S Album" since the three songs released as singles all started with the letter S. Which was NOT one of those songs?

Answer: Sweet Love

"Sweet Love" was the title of a 1986 song recorded by Anita Baker. Sheena would later use "Strut" in a series of health club commercials she made in the late 1980's.
7. "So Far, So Good" was a song Sheena contributed to the soundtrack of a 1986 movie which featured a couple of actors then known as members of the "Brat Pack". What was the film?

Answer: About Last Night...

Sheena also had a second song on the soundtrack entitled "Natural Love", which is the song played as Demi Moore and Rob Lowe's characters move belongings into their apartment. The film was based on David Mamet's play, "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" and was filmed in that city.

The plot involved Moore and Lowe's characters trying to sustain a relationship which began with a meaningless one-night-stand.
8. In 1988, Sheena would have her biggest hit in the U.S. since her debut, the title track off her 1988 album. What was the song?

Answer: The Lover In Me

"The Lover In Me" would reach the #2 position on Billboard's Hot 100. This was around the time Sheena became a spokesperson for Bally Total Fitness, and played Sonny Crockett's wife in a short-lived stint on NBC's "Miami Vice".
9. Having already collaborated with Prince his song "U Got The Look", Sheena was an obvious choice to record a duet with him on his 1989 "Batman" soundtrack. What was the title of their duet?

Answer: The Arms of Orion

The song was the third single released off Prince's "Batman" soundtrack, after the rhythmic smash hit "Batdance" and its follow-up single "Partyman". It would only go as far as #36 on the U.S. pop charts (Billboard Hot 100).
10. In the early 1990's, many artists who had their biggest hits a decade earlier attempted comebacks by releasing dance remixes of their new singles, in the hopes of getting played in clubs and on dance-mix radio hours. One of these songs was Sheena's 1991 single, which became her final American Top 40 hit of that era. Which is it?

Answer: What Comes Naturally

The other three songs were club hits by eighties artists Laura Branigan ("Moonlight On Water"), Chaka Khan ("Love You All My Lifetime"), and The Tom Tom Club ("Sunshine and Ecstasy").

After "What Comes Naturally" hit #39 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, Sheena Easton has continued to perform around the world since her chart-topping heyday, even on Broadway. Her concerts have become fewer and farther between since her children reached school age. Fortunate fans have been able to catch weekend shows in Las Vegas or Atlantic City when they could. Her schedule may have slowed down, but she has not retired. Thanks for playing!
