Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" (1957)

Answer: Jimmie Rodgers

"Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" was originally written in 1950 by American folk band The Weavers, but became a successful for both Jimmie Rodgers in 1957 and Frankie Vaughan in 1958. The Rodgers version peaked in at number seven on the US Billboard charts while the Vaughan version peaked at number eight in the United Kingdom.
2. "Kansas City" (1959)

Answer: Wilbert Harrison

"Kansas City" was an R&B hit written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller in 1952. Also released by Little Richard with two different versions in both 1955 and 1970 and by The Beatles in 1964, the most popular and successful version of the song came in 1959 when a little-known Wilbert Harrison successfully charted at the number one spot that year.

It became one of only two Billboard Top 40 hits for Harrison; his only other being "Let's Work Together (Part 1)" that peaked at number 32 in 1970.
3. "King of the Road" (1965)

Answer: Roger Miller

"King of the Road" depicts the day-to-day life of a homeless person who ultimately declares himself as the "king of the road". This song was a country/pop crossover track that went to number one of the US Country Charts and number four on the US Billboard Charts.

It has been successfully covered by multiple artists including The Proclaimers who charted at number nine of the UK Singles Charts in 1990 and Randy Travis who peaked in at number 51 on the US Country Charts in 1997.
4. "Kind of a Drag" (1967)

Answer: The Buckinghams

"Kind of a Drag" went to number one on the US Billboard Charts and Canadian RPM Charts in 1967. So successful was the track that it sold over a million copies and was awarded gold disc status. The Buckinghams as a band would have short lived success existing as a band only from 1966-1970 (they would reform in 1980, but have no success on music charts).

They managed to record five Top 40 tracks, three of which hit the Top Ten, but all of them came in 1967.
5. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" (1973)

Answer: Bob Dylan

While popularized by other musicians including Guns N' Roses and Eric Clapton, the original recording of "Knockin' On Heavens Door" would be the first version of the song to chart on the Billboard Top 100. Written and sung by Bob Dylan, the 1973 version from the soundtrack to film "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Charts. Clapton released his rendition of the song in 1975, mainly seeing success in his homeland peaking in at number 38 on the UK Singles Charts.

The Guns N' Roses version, released in 1990, peaked at number one in Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands, and landed at number 18 on the US Mainstream Rock Charts in 1992.
6. "Kung Fu Fighting" (1974)

Answer: Carl Douglas

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Carl Douglas is primarily known for being a one-hit-wonder musician for his track "Kung Fu Fighting" that peaked at number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It has sold over eleven million records worldwide, received a Gold certification, and charted on the US Soul Singles charts in 1974.

In the year 2000, it was ranked on both the VH1 "100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders" as well as the UK's Channel 4 "Top 10 One Hit Wonder" programs.
7. "Karma Chameleon" (1984)

Answer: Culture Club

"Karma Chameleon" was one of nine US Top Ten Billboard charting hits for Culture Club and one of two US Billboard number one tracks for the band (the other being their 1982 "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?"). The single has sold over five million copies worldwide and is one of the best-selling UK Singles of all-time.

It remained at the number one spot on the Billboard Charts for three straight weeks only to be bumped from that spot by Van Halen's "Jump".
8. "Kyrie" (1986)

Answer: Mr. Mister

"Kyrie" peaked in at the number one spot on the US Billboard charts the week of March 1, and remained there for two weeks. The lyrics to the song "Kyrie, eleison" are Greek and literally translate to "Lord, have mercy" and are often used in Eastern Orthodox and Christian religions. According to lead singer Richard Page, the song is essentially a prayer.
9. "Kryptonite" (2000)

Answer: 3 Doors Down

"Kryptonite" was recorded in 1999 and peaked in at the number three spot on the US Billboard charts and ran for eleven weeks at the number one spot on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2000. While the song lyrics could be interpreted as an homage to Superman and a super hero theme, drummer Brad Arnold has suggested that the song is "...really just kind of like asking a question.

Its question is kind of a strange one."
10. "Kiss Kiss" (2007)

Answer: Chris Brown

"Kiss Kiss" was recorded and released on the 2007 album "Exclusive". It would become the second number one hit single on the US Billboard charts for Chris Brown, his first being the 2005 track "Run It" featuring Juelz Santana. While Brown has had a successful music career that includes ten Top Ten hits on the Billboards as a lead artist, his career has been overshadowed by various personal issues.

These incidents include, but are not limited to, domestic violence, motor vehicular incidents, and gun related charges.
