Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Find a ring and put it on, For you know that this is really love" Name this Como hit.

Answer: "Round And Round"

Como's amazing career spanned from the late 1930's as the featured vocalist for Ted Weems Orchestra right into the 1990's. He had eleven #1 songs prior to the advent of the rock era in 1955. He added three more #1's with "Round And Round", "Hot Diggety" and "Catch A Falling Star". His last chart entry was in 1974.
2. "Right to the end, just like a friend, I tried to warn you somehow You had your way, now you must pay" Who sang this song from 1958?

Answer: Connie Francis

"Who's Sorry Now" was Francis' first hit peaking at #4 on the charts. She didn't much care for the song but her father insisted that she record it since it was his favorite song. It originally was a hit in 1923... as an instrumental for Isham Jones and a singing version by Marion Harris.
3. "Everybody's gonna have religion and glory, Everybody's gonna be singing that story" Name the song.

Answer: "Wonderful Time Up There"

This #4 song from 1958 was sung in a "church revival" manner by Pat Boone. It suited his Christian ethic!
4. Name this Presley #1 hit from 1958: "Adam told Eve 'Listen here to me, Doncha let me catch ya messin' under the apple tree"

Answer: "Hard Headed Woman"

It was Presley's eleventh #1 single. His next two #1's "A Big Hunk O' Love" and "Stuck On You" were of a similar up-beat, teen rock genre. By the early 60's, he started singing more adult oriented songs like "It's Now Or Never", "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and "Surrender".
5. "There was Lollipop with Peggy Sue, Good Golly Miss Molly was even there too" Can you name the artist of this 1958 hit?

Answer: Bobby Darin

"Splish Splash" was Darin's first hit peaking at #3. I don't think he ever did finish his bath!
6. "My heart I can't control, you're in my very soul; My only prayer will be someday you 'll care for me" Name the song.

Answer: "It's Only Make Believe"

This was a cross-over #1 hit for Conway Twitty in 1958 and very Elvis like. He had few other hits on the pop charts thereafter but ultimately had forty #1's on the country charts from 1968 to 1986!
7. The lyric is: "Now did you hear about Louie Miller, He disappeared, babe, After drawing out his hard earned cash." Three artists charted with a vocal of this song in the 1950s and early 60s. Which artist did NOT?

Answer: Frank Sinatra

"Mack The Knife" was an enormous hit for Darin and essentially defined his career. It was #1 for nine weeks in 1959. Armstrong recorded the song in 1956 when several instrumental versions were released under the title "Theme From The Three Penny Opera (Moritat)" His was a moderate hit charting at #20. Finally, Ella's version peaked at #27 in June 1960. Now maybe Sinatra recorded the song as an album track but never released it as a single and if he did, it never charted.
8. Buddy Holly: "The way you dance and hold me tight, The way you kiss and say goodnight" The song?

Answer: "Rave On"

This one might be a little tougher than normal since it was a minor hit at #37. I thought it was a terrific song!
9. A #1 hit from Ricky Nelson! "She'd play around and tease me with her carefree devil eyes, She'd hold me close and kiss me but her heart was full of lies"

Answer: "Poor Little Fool"

Nelson only had two #1's, this one and "Travellin' Man" in 1961. From 1957 to 1965 he had 50 charted hits starting with his debut hit "A Teenager's Romance" yet you hardly ever hear any of his stuff on oldies radio anymore.
10. "He rocks in the treetops all day long, Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singin' his song" .. who sang this?

Answer: Bobby Day

"Rockin' Robin" was a #2 song for Bobby Day in 1958 and a #2 hit for Michael Jackson in 1972.
