Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Led Zeppelin song are these lyrics from? "You need cooling, baby I'm not fooling. / I'm gonna send ya back to schooling".

Answer: Whole Lotta Love

From Led Zeppelin's second album, "Led Zeppelin II", the song was the band's first big hit, reaching the top ten charts in many countries although number 21 was the best it could do on the UK Singles Chart.
2. Flying in from the West Coast Eagles would like to sing the song with these lyrics: "Sometime before the sun comes up the radio is gonna play that song". Which song is it?

Answer: Heartache Tonight

"Heartache Tonight" was the first of three songs released from Eagles' 1979 album "The Long Run". It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sold over one million copies and would be the last Eagles single to reach number one on the Hot 100.
3. Which Rolling Stones song features the lines "I've been walking Central Park, singin' after dark / People think I'm crazy"?

Answer: Miss You

Recorded in late 1977 and released in 1978, "Miss You" was released a month before the "Some Girls" album. Some of the band members said it was written as a disco song, others said it was not. Either way it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the UK Singles Chart. The Stones used a few studio musicians for the recording.
4. Which Grateful Dead song features the line "If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep tonight"?

Answer: Friend of the Devil

The song was included on the Dead's fifth studio album "American Beauty". Though not released as a single "Friend of the Devil" receives a lot of airplay on classic rock stations. Regarding the popularity of the song the Dead's lyricist Robert Hunter said: "That was the closest we've come to what may be a classic song."
5. Hop or skip over to the jukebox and see if you know this Van Halen song: "I got my back against the record machine / I ain't the worst that you've seen."

Answer: Jump

Van Halen (named after band founder Eddie Van Halen) has long been a favorite of classic rock radio stations, especially after they found the track to fame in the early 1980s. "Jump" is the group's most successful single recording, reaching number one or two in several countries. It was included on Van Halen's "1984" album.
6. Which Steve Miller Band song contains the line "I might get rich, you know I might get busted"?

Answer: Jet Airliner

"Jet Airliner" was one of three singles from 1977's "Book of Dreams" album and the most successful. The song deals with the trials of a musician, heading out on the road but not really wanting to. When heard on classic rock radio it is often mated with "Threshold", an instrumental which preceded it on the album.
7. Bon Jovi commented on her makeup in which song here? "Paint your smile on your lips / Blood red nails on your fingertips".

Answer: You Give Love a Bad Name

Van Halen was named after Eddie Van Halen, the group's leader. Likewise, Bon Jovi was named after their leader, Jon Bon Jovi (really John Francis Bongiovi Jr.). The New Jersey band has been around since 1983. "You Give Love a Bad Name" is from their 1986 album "Slippery When Wet" which was a top ten album in most of the world. The song became Bon Jovi's first number one hit.
8. If you listened to a certain Lynyrd Skynyrd song you'd hear these lyrics; which song do they belong to? "Oh, wait a minute, mister, I didn't even kiss her / Don't want no trouble with you".

Answer: Gimme Three Steps

The band really was named (at least in part) for a physical education teacher at their Florida high school - Leonard Skinner. He strictly enforced the school's ban on long hair for boys, causing one of the band members to drop out of school. They changed the spelling a year after adopting it. "Gimme Three Steps" was from their first album "(pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd)" (Yes, that's the title!).

The song was based on the real-life experience of band member Ronnie Van Zandt at a biker bar in Florida. Though never charting in the top 100 lists it is a favorite of classic rock radio.
9. Which Creedence Clearwater Revival song features the lyrics "I can still hear my old hound dog barkin' / Chasin' down a hoodoo there".

Answer: Born on the Bayou

Though they're from the San Francisco Bay area Creedence is often thought of as a Southern rock band because of many of their songs and style. "Born on the Bayou" is certainly one of those songs. It was released as the B-side of their big hit "Proud Mary", so it was never ranked on a chart but became a staple of rock radio and then classic rock stations.
10. Which Tom Petty song features the lines "Buy me a drink, sing me a song / Take me as I come 'cause I can't stay long"?

Answer: Mary Jane's Last Dance

The song was included on the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers album "Greatest Hits" even though the song hadn't been released as a single yet. It must have been a self-fulfilling prophecy because, when released as a single, it went on to number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.
