'Wake Me Up Before You Go Go' was a hit for Wham in 1984. It was their first number one record in the UK; they did go on to have several more number one hits. Wham was made up of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley who met at High School and rocketed to fame initially with their bad boy image and later a more casual fashionable image.
In 1985 Wham were the first western pop group do gigs in China which gave them huge press coverage.

'Time After Time' is a single by Cyndi Lauper. It was released in January 1984 and reached number three in the UK charts. It has been rated in the Best 100 80s records of all time! Her other well known song is 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' which got to two in the UK singles charts.

'You Can Call Me Al' was a successful hit for Paul Simon. It reached four in the UK singles charts after its second release in 1986.

It was written by Paul Simon and is about a man going through a mid-life crisis. The video is very amusing and features Paul Simon and Chevy Chase. I won't spoil it if you haven't seen ... take a look.

The song makes reference to one of his earlier songs called 'Space Oddity' and a character called Major Tom. Major Tom went from being a hippie astronaut travelling beyond the stars to a junkie. David Bowie claims the record is like a childrens' nursery rhyme, a very complex one me thinks!

'Ferry Cross The Mersey' is a song written by Gerry Marsden and originally sung by his band Gerry And The Pacemakers of which he was the singer. The Mersey is a river which runs from Liverpool into the Irish Sea.
In 1989 the song was re-recorded by Liverpool's Gerry Marsden, Holly Johnson, Paul McCartney and The Christians as a charity record. The proceeds went to those affected by the Hillsborough Disaster which claimed 96 lives.
