Mae Mania Trivia Quiz

I've seen that no quizzes have been made for this band, so, it being one of my favorites, I've decided to. I'll give a lyric off either their "The Everglow" or "Destination: Beautiful" album, and you have to name the song it's from.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Released on the album "The Everglow", which song contains the following lyrics? "You come over unannounced, Silence broken by your voice in the dark, I need you here tonight."

Answer: The Ocean

If you remembered the next lyric, you should have got it. "Just like the ocean needs the waves." This song is about a guy who is talked about how life is without his girlfriend. When he says "I need you here tonight. Just like the ocean needs the waves," he's saying without her, his life is as dull as a non-moving ocean. Mae's first three full length albums were: "Destination: Beautiful," "Destination: B-Sides," and "The Everglow."
2. Okay, now which song, also off "The Everglow", has this lyric in it? "Painted skies. I've seen so many that cannot compare to your ocean eyes."

Answer: The Sun and the Moon

This is a beautiful song. It is, in every way, a love song. He sings to a girl about how he basically IS hers, and how she's like the sun and the moon because she's "A light that can reach it all," meaning he feels she has reached out to him. Mae promoted their album "Singularity" by releasing a sampler.
3. Can you guess this song off their album "Destination: Beautiful"? "Losing sleep for days. Is this just a phase? Are there other ways? The one who sings is the one who pays."

Answer: All Deliberate Speed

Once again, as most songs by "Mae" are, a song from a boy to a girl. He talks about how the city they're living in is "Good for nothing but for feeling down" and how they want to get out of it. It ends with them leaving the town and heading to L.A. The full length "Singularity" album launched on April 14, 2007.
4. Do you think you can figure this song out? "Did you know how you would move us, did you know? When the lights first came upon us, And we saw The Everglow. And the moment's magic swept us away."

Answer: We're So Far Away

I would guess "The Everglow" is the common answer for people who don't know the song too well, but it is tricky for even people who do know the song well. This time, the guy is almost angry that he has fallen in love with this girl because he moves around so much, but they still feel like a couple. That's what he means when he says "It's so close but we're so far away." "Destination: B-Sides" is actually a compilation album where "Mae" remastered their old songs.
5. Would you like to try this one? "Go on ahead and let it fade away. No looking back you know the past will stay. It's you and me, we could get out of here. Jump in and go and we could drive for years."

Answer: Summertime

A great song off their album "Destination: Beautiful." This song is about a guy thinking back to all the good times he's had with his girlfriend over the past summer, but is now drifting away from her. He wants to fix that by doing as much stuff as possible with her, expressed as "Jump in and go and we could drive for years." "Destination: B-Sides" also had two songs that appeared nowhere else; "Awakening" and "Tisbury Lane."
6. Want to take a guess on this tricky one? "I read the news today, oh boy, About a lucky man who made the grade, And though the news was rather sad, Well, I just had to laugh."

Answer: A Day in the Life

The reason this might have been difficult is because this song is only on "The Everglow: Special Edition" album as a bonus track. It's actually a cover a "Beatles" song. Basically, the story is the title. It goes through a day in the life of a man, but around the time of the "Beatles." "Mae"'s first full length album, "Destination: Beautiful," launched in 2003.
7. What's the answer to this lyric? "Why must you say I made a mess out of things? I won't believe it. Tonight feels right like I'm dancing on air. I'll make it right, I'll make it right."

Answer: Skyline Drive

Probably one of their quietest songs until about the end of it, where the instruments really pick up. This is another purely love song. It's a guy just telltng his girlfriend he wants to "Keep driving." In other words, he wants to keep their relationship as strong as possible. Their second album, "The Everglow," launched in 2005.
8. What song is this from? "We write to patch things up, Maybe not to agree but to proclaim love. Let's look ahead and then we'll see the One Whose glory never ends."

Answer: Embers and Envelopes

This is a really good song with some of my favorite instrumentals I've ever heard. It is about a partially broken up couple that have to send letters to communicate with each. Both are sending letters asking for forgiveness and wondeing if their relationship is still working. Mae has also covered the song "March of the Pigs," originally by Nine Inch Nails.
9. Only two left now. What do you think this one is? "Lights, camera, action. I think I'm going for it this time. There's something you should listen to. Could I take you for a car ride?"

Answer: Soundtrack for Our Movie

Hopefully, the "Lights, camera, action" led you on the right path and steered you away from "Skyline Drive" because of the "Could I take you for a car ride?" part. This song is about a guy who sees his relationship with his girlfriend as a "movie" that he is creating.

This stands out as he says "I'm directing the scene that has you and me forever." Though many people consider Mae Soft Rock, Emo Rock, or Indie Pop, the band itself likes to consider themselves regular Rock.
10. Phew! The last one. What track is this from? "I hope you enjoyed your journey. Goodnight."

Answer: Epilogue

What a proper ending! This isn't REALLY a song, but it does have a little background music. What it really is is the ending of the album of "The Everglow." The album aso has a beginning, called "Prologue." The two songs that appear on the "Singularity" album sampler are "Brink of Disaster" and "Rocket."
