"Cross-Eyed Mary", a song about a young prostitute, first appeared on Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" album. Jethro Tull was formed in Blackpool in 1967 by grammar school chums. They went through several names before landing on Jethro Tull, the name of an Englishman who invented horse-driven agricultural equipment.

"Mary Ann" is one of the tracks on Bob Dylan's 1973 album "Dylan" and was based on a traditional folk song. The song is about a man who has gone to sea and misses his love.
