Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Now he lives in the islands, Fishes the pilings And drinks his green label each day"

Answer: He Went to Paris

The song was originally released on the 1973 album "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean". Written by Buffett, the song tells the story of a soldier returning home from the Spanish Civil war. He gets married starts a family and although his wife and son were killed and he was left alone, he reminisces about his life.

"Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he'll smile and he'll say
Jimmy some of its magic, some of its tragic,
But I've had a good life all the way."
2. "I bought a cheap watch from the crazy man, Floating down canal It doesn't use numbers or moving hands, It always just says now"

Answer: Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On

"Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On", was originally released on the 2006 album "Take the Weather with You" and was written in response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Buffett has always considered New Orleans, Louisiana to be like a second home and was personally saddened by the storm's massive destruction.

The song saw a resurgence in popularity after Buffett performed a duet alongside up and coming artist Caroline Jones as the grand finale of the "Trying to Reason Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert" held in Florida in November 2017.

The concert was a benefit to raise money for relief efforts following Hurricane Irma.
3. "Well the wind is blowin' harder now Fifty knots or there abouts"

Answer: Trying to Reason with the Hurricane Season

"Tying to Reason with the Hurricane Season" was released on the 1974 album "A1A". "There are white caps on the ocean and I'm watching for water spouts. It's time to close the shutters, it's time to go inside..."
4. "And the lady she hails from Trinidad, Island of the spices salt for your meat, cinnamon sweet, And the rum is for all your good vices"

Answer: Son of A Son of A Sailor

"Son of a Son of a Sailor" was recorded and released for the 1977 album of the same title, which came out a year later and peaked at number ten on the "Billboard 200" album chart.
5. "It's just a _________, Messy and old-fashioned, Yeah, that's what the papers did say"

Answer: Cuban Crime of Passion

The song tells the story of Billy Voltaire, a singer who meets and falls in love with a woman named Marita; when he finds Marita with another man, he commits a crime of passion killing the man she was with and ultimately taking his own life as well.
6. "The cannons don't thunder There's nothing to plunder"

Answer: A Pirate Looks at Forty

"I'm an over forty victim of fate". "A Pirate Looks at Forty" has become one of Buffet's biggest songs and is loved by nearly all Parrotheads. The song was released on the 1974 Album "A1A" and is one of the many songs that has been played at nearly every performance that Buffett has put on over the span of the last few decades.

Other songs that have been featured at nearly every show include, "Margaritaville, "Fins, and "Volcano".
7. "Hey, Hey Gardner McKay Take us on the leaky tiki with you"

Answer: We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About

My favorite lines in the song are, "I've got quarters in my loafers, trying to fight inflation, when it only used to take a cent." The song was included on the 1983 album "One Particular Harbor". Gardner McKay was an actor who appeared in the series "Adventures in Paradise", which aired between 1959 and 1962. According to Buffett McKay's role on the series influenced him greatly and inspired him to get in touch with his "gypsy self".
8. "While the lights of St. Thomas lie twenty miles west, I see General Electric's still doing their best."

Answer: Maņana

"Maņana" first appeared on the 1978 album "Son of a Son of a Sailor". Maņana was the lowest of three singles that were featured on the album peaking at 84th on the US "Billboard Hot 100". "Livingston Saturday Night" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" peaked at 52nd and 32nd respectively.
9. "Then out jumped my partner with his trusty pellet gun"

Answer: The Great Fillin' Station Holdup

The song is about two robbers who as the title says, holdup a Filling Station, and are eventually caught while having a beer in a honky-tonk. The single featured the B-side which outperformed this song and became one of Buffett's most popular hits, "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw". Both songs were included on Buffett's 1973 album, "A White Sport Coat and A Pink Crustacean".
10. "I remember bein' buck-toothed and skinny Writin' fan letters to Sky's niece Penny"

Answer: Pencil Thin Mustache

"Pencil Thin Moustache" is a song about the nostalgia of the popular culture of Buffett's childhood. References to Errol Flynn, Ricky Ricardo, and Sky King's niece Penny become more outdated or unknown to younger "Parrotheads" as time goes on, but the idea of the song remains the same. We all have movies, television shows, etc. that were an important part of our childhood that we can look back on years later.
