Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An easy one to start. Who was the lead singer of Mondo Rock?

Answer: Ross Wilson

If you got that one wrong - don't call yourself a fan! Peter Garrett was the lead singer of Midnight Oil, Iva Davies was the lead singer of Icehouse (formerly The Flowers), and the late, great Marc Hunter was the lead singer in Dragon. All fantastic Aussie (or Kiwi) bands, but not the one we're after here!
2. Which Sydney radio station banned "Come Said The Boy"?

Answer: 2SM

Banned by 2SM because it allegedly advocated teenage sex. The radio station at the time was owned by the Catholic Church.
3. Who wrote the infamous song "Come Said The Boy"?

Answer: Eric McCusker

Great song, if not a little provocative. Eric McCusker also wrote "State of the Heart", "No Time" and "Summer of '81", to name but a few.
4. What year were Mondo Rock unleashed on the world?

Answer: 1976

They had been around for a while before they hit the big time! Ross Wilson formed Mondo Rock after his memorable work with Daddy Cool, and the band's lineup changed numerous times before they really hit the big time.
5. What year was "Come Said The Boy" released?

Answer: 1984

The song was banned on Sydney radio station 2SM. Eric McCusker, who wrote the song, once said "I thought it was a bit of a storm in a teacup really."
6. Which of the following Mondo Rock songs was written by Ross Wilson?

Answer: Cool World

"Cool World" was written by Ross Wilson - the rest were written by Eric McCusker. Ross Wilson once stated that he felt McCusker wrote "the more sophisticated love songs" - referring to songs such as "Come Said the Boy" and "State of the Heart".
7. Who was the Mondo Rock bass player?

Answer: Simon Gyllies

Tough Question--one for the die-hard fans who looooove Mondo Rock! Mondo Rock changed their lineup several times, but Simon Gyllies was one of several bass players. Bass player Paul Christie joined Mondo Rock in 1980, after the band's eighth lineup change!
8. In late 1985, James Black left Mondo Rock to work with which popular Australian band?

Answer: Men at Work

James Black later worked with both the Black Sorrows and the Revelators, but he left Mondo Rock in late 1985 to work with the remarkably popular Men At Work. Dragon were a great Aussie band around at the same time.
9. What was Mondo Rock's debut single in the US?

Answer: State of the Heart

"Primitive Love Rites" was Mondo Rock's biggest selling single in the US, but an edited version of State of the Heart was the band's first release. While it failed to reach the charts, Rick Springfield (incidentally an expatriate Aussie) apparently later had success with it!
10. Many of us know that Ross Wilson did great work for the band "Daddy Cool", but for which other Aussie band did he produce three albums?

Answer: Skyhooks

The albums Ross Wilson produced for Skyhooks were "Living in the 70's", "Ego is not a Dirty Word", and "Straight in a Gay, Gay World". Ahhhh, Skyhooks!
