Anyway, who sang these particular lyrics? No, it weren't the bleedin' Beatles, mate. Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "There's a crack up in the ceiling. And the kitchen sink is leaking. Out of work and got no money. A Sunday joint of bread and honey. What are we living for? Two-roomed apartment on the second floor. No money coming in. The rent collector's knocking, trying to get in." Another day in sunny Britain. You've never had it so good? Anyway, who sang these particular lyrics? No, it weren't the bleedin' Beatles, mate.

Answer: "Dead End Street" - the Kinks

With the never ending onslaught of glorification of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and to a lesser degree the Who, the Kinks often seem to get lost a bit. But in the 60s they were a force to be reckoned with. Singer Ray Davies penned incredibly great lyrics about mundane life in Britain, while his brother Dave Davies invented a new guitar sound by punching holes in the speaker cones of his guitar amp. Oh, and they regularly beat each other up and split.
2. "I used to wake up in the morning. I used to feel so bad. I got so sick of having sleepless nights. I went and told my dad. He said, "Son now here's some little something". And stuck them on my wall. And now my nights ain't quite so lonely. In fact I, I don't feel bad at all." What was stuck on the wall? And who sang about it?

Answer: "Pictures of Lily" - The Who

At the start of their career the 'Oo, as they were affectionally called, was a pretty inventive little singles band. This particular song tells the tale of a boy who can't sleep. His dad finds a solution and puts some pictures of the actress Lily Langtry (1853 - 1929) on the wall, for his son to ogle at and fall asleep satisfied. Lily Langtry was supposed to have met and charmed the pants off Judge Roy Bean, who named a town in Texas after her.
3. "I want you to know that I love you, baby. Want you to know that I care. I'm so happy when you're round me. But I'm sad when you're not there. Sing the song now!" What song is that then?

Answer: "What'cha Gonna Do About it?" - the Small Faces

The Small Faces' debut single featured a severely distorted middle section, the heaviest thing hit parades had ever seen. When the classically trained avant-gardist John Cale, of the Velvet Underground, first heard it, he had an epiphany and realised rock music could be dark and dangerous.

The Sex Pistols used to cover this song on stage, but Johnny Rotten found the lyrics 'a bit naff' and changed them to "I want you to know that I hate you, baby. Want you to know I don't care" etc.
4. "In this dirty old part of the city. Where the sun refused to shine. People tell me there ain't no use in tryin'. Now my girl you're so young and pretty. And one thing I know is true. You'll be dead before your time is due, I know." What song is this?

Answer: "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place" - the Animals

Soon after recording "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place" pianist Alan Price left the Animals. He said he was afraid of flying and couldn't go touring in America. Though the reasons for his departure might have been slightly different. Their biggest hit, a version of "House of the Rising Sun", had been arranged by the entire band, but the management thought it would be better if they put one person as the arranger. And that person was Alan Price.

It was decided that the royalties from the arrangement would later be divided among the group.

Then the song became an enormous hit and the money started pouring in. Suddenly Price decided to leave the band, and they never saw their money.
5. "How does it feel when the day is over? How does it feel when the dark comes down? How does it feel when your room is black as sin? How does it feel when you're scared by the dark?" How does this band call itself and what is the song's title?

Answer: "How Does It Feel To Feel?" - the Creation

The Creation was a brilliant singles band. Check out "Through My Eyes", "Painter Man" and "Biff Bang Pow". They were an enormous influence to Scottish bloke Alan McGee, who named his first band Biff Bang Pow and when he started a record company, he called it Creation. Creation released records by The Jesus & Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Sugar, Super Furry Animals, the Boo Radleys, and Ride, who incidentally covered the song "How Does It Feel To Feel?"
6. "I can't stand still cause you got me goin'. Your slacks are low and your hips are showin'. I dig you girl as you're standin' there. Your low-cut slacks and your long black hair." Who sang this trouser-obsessed little ditty?

Answer: "I Can't Control Myself" - the Troggs

Although there are no dirty words at all in this song - though some of you might be offended by the lurid use of the word 'hips' - radio stations all over the world refused to play it as it was deemed 'too lustful'. It is indeed a quite sexy song. And definitely more raunchy than their "Love Is All Around", which was later covered by the band Wet Wet Wet Wet Wet.
7. "---- just because. You're the daughter of a man. He may be rich he's in a ditch. He does not understand. Just how to move or rock and roll. To the conventions of the young." Now then, what song is this and what name has been blanked?

Answer: "Desdemona" - John's Children

John's Children had once featured Jeff Beck on guitar. When he left Marc Bolan joined in 1967. He recorded the song "Desdemona" with them, which the BBC banned because of the line "Lift Up Your Skirt and Fly". The band recorded one album, "Orgasm", which was obviously shelved and not released until 1971, when Bolan had long since departed and formed Tyrannosaurus Rex, which morphed into T. Rex.
8. "Question-time that says I brought dishonour. My head's bowed in shame. It seems that I've blackened the family name. Mother says that she can't stand the neighbours talking. I've gotta pack my bags, leave this home, start walking, yeah. I'm guilty. I wish that I was sorry this time. I wish that I could pay for my crime." Teenage angst from whom? And what song?

Answer: "Can't Help Thinking About Me" - Davey Jones & the Lower Third

Who on earth is Davey Jones? Why, it's David Bowie of course. In 1966 he changed his name because of the success of The Monkees, who featured one Davy Jones. To avoid confusion he changed his name to Bowie. And the rest, as they say, is history.
9. "Color and sky, brush and blue. Scarlet fleece changes you. Crimson ball sinks from view." A short lyrical fragment from what song?

Answer: "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" - Donovan

Folk rocker Donovan is the dad of actress Ione Skye, who starred in "Gas, Food, Lodging", "River's Edge", "Say Anything" and "Wayne's World".
10. "I want to tell you a story. About a little man. If I can. A gnome named Grimble Crumble. And little gnomes stay in their homes. Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine." What little song is this?

Answer: "The Gnome" - Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd was named after two old blues musicians: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
