Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On which Lacuna Coil song do the following lyrics appear? "Watch your back because I am coming closer / Shivers down your spine / You were not expecting me."

Answer: I'm Not Afraid

"Shallow Life" was released in April 2009 (May 2009 in Japan), and was the fifth album by Lacuna Coil, who hail from Italy. "I'm Not Afraid" was released in early April for airplay in Russia.

"Closer" is indeed a Lacuna Coil song, but it appeared on their album "Karmacode" rather than "Shallow Life".
2. Complete this Lacuna Coil lyric: "Tell me who you are; I am _____ / You cannot have this control on me."

Answer: spellbound

"Spellbound" was the first single to be released from "Shallow Life", and was released in digital download only. The music video was performed in Dolce and Gabbana's Gold restaurant in Milan, and directed by Roberto Cinardi. The costumes worn in the video were designed by Dolce and Gabbana.
3. "Now I found my way to solid ground / I left behind the feeling that I've been a fool." From which Lacuna Coil song are these lyrics?

Answer: Unchained

"Shallow Life" was produced by Don Gilmore, who has also worked with artists such as Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, and Duran Duran. In an interview with Blabbermouth.net, Cristina stated that while the album has a different sound to the band's other albums, it is still their style. "We haven't done anything absolutely different from our style, because that wouldn't be natural, it would be weird -- it wouldn't be us."

4. Which Lacuna Coil song has the following chorus? "Today I'm gonna fly / There's nothing that can keep me on the ground / Touch the sky / I'm free inside."

Answer: I Like It

The band put up a poll of nine songs from the album onto their MySpace profile for their fans to choose which they would prefer for the next single. "I Like It" was chosen, and the music video was released in June 2009, set in Kansas City.

"My Wings" doesn't actually appear on the album "Shallow Life" - it is featured on "In A Reverie" (1999).
5. Fill in the blank to these Lacuna Coil lyrics: "What can I do ____ / How hard I fight ___ "

Answer: to kill the pain

The lyrics are from "The Pain".

"Shallow Life" received quite mixed reviews upon its release, with many feeling that the band had "Americanized" their sound too much, have entered the mainstream, sounding just like bands like Evanescence! Even Metal Hammer suggested that only sad women should listen to the ballads on the album: "Best listened to with a communal tub of ice cream, a DVD of 'Steel Magnolias' and the full complement of X chromosomes." (http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/lacuna-coil-shallow-life-track-by-track-guide/)

I personally disagree - the album does have more pop than previous albums, but listening to it a few times brings out the sound that Lacuna Coil have always had.
6. "It's a fairy tale and the story's out of date / Nothing that I haven't tried to say." These lyrics are in which Lacuna Coil song?

Answer: Oblivion

"Oblivion" was featured on the limited edition Digipack and the iTunes edition of "Shallow Life". "The Last Goodbye" was actually a Japanese bonus track, and also featured on Disc 2 of the Special Edition, along with "Leaving Alone".

Lacuna Coil played Australian festival Soundwave in early 2009, alongside bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Lamb of God, and In Flames. In the same year, they played UK festival Download.
7. What is the next line to this Lacuna Coil song? "I cannot tell you you're falling apart / Open your eyes if you wanna survive."

Answer: I want to tell you your love is a lie

"I Won't Tell You" was released to radio in October 2009; there was no physical release. The music video was shot in Milan by Italian director Roberto Cinardi, already mentioned as having directed the video for "Spellbound".
8. Which song of Lacuna Coil do these lyrics come from? "I've come to realize I can barely carry on each day / This life is so destructive it's blowing out my mind."

Answer: The Maze

As well as Lacuna Coil, some members have appeared on other songs. Cristina has sung on various songs by artists including Apocalyptica ("S.O.S. [Anything But Love]"), Alter Bridge ("Watch Over You") and Megadeth "À Tout Le Monde [Set Me Free]"). Drummer Cristiano has been featured on "Nunù" by Pino Scotto. Cristina and guitarist Marco are part of musical project Rezophonic, and have been featured on songs of the project.
9. In which Lacuna Coil song do these lyrics appear? "They can't explain the desire to overcome the pain / Feel the breath that's always getting away from me."

Answer: Survive

In 2008, Lacuna Coil released their first live album, "Visual Karma (Body, Mind and Soul)", which includes concerts filmed at Wacken Festival, Germany, and also Japanese Loudpark Festival from 2007. Also included are behind-the-scenes features. There was a four disc limited edition released in Europe only.
10. "The struggle within / Now I understand freedom begins / When you get out of the cage you built." True or False: These lyrics come from the song "Underdog".

Answer: False

Actually, the lyrics are from "Wide Awake". It was released as the album's fourth single in November 2009 to Italian radios.

In 2009, the band released "Manifesto of Lacuna Coil", a compilation featuring songs from the band's first four albums.
