Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song is this from? "Going way too fast, gonna burn and crash. Valentine's in London found me in the trash."

Answer: Dancing on Glass

Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx had been playing in bands together when they met Mick Mars through an ad in a newspaper. They met Vince Neil when he was playing with a band called Rock Candy. In his early days, Vince was famous for wearing all white when he performed. Motley Crue officially became a band in January of 1981.
2. Which song starts with these lyrics? "Uptown, downtown, haven't seen your face around. Paper says you shot a man, trigger-happy punk down in Chinatown."

Answer: Five Years Dead

The first nine months they were a band, Motley Crue lived in a run-down slum in Los Angeles. As Vince described in the band's memoir, "The Dirt", the house was always full of guests and unspeakably filthy. They didn't even clean up the backyard after the Los Angeles Department of Health Services showed up, complaining about all the rats that were living in the garbage.

The chapter in "The Dirt" that described the house is totally nasty, but very funny at the same time.
3. These lyrics are from which hit song? "East L.A. at midnight, papa won't be home tonight. Found dead with his best friend's wife."

Answer: Wild Side

Motley Crue's first album, "Too Fast For Love", was released in 1981. The album was recorded in three days, and the studio they used only charged $60 an hour. Shortly after that, Nikki Sixx spent two days in jail for hitting an undercover cop, but was let off without further charges when many people reported being harrassed by cops on the Sunset Strip.
4. In what song will you find these lyrics? "You say illegal, but I say legal's never been my scene."

Answer: All in the Name Of

Motley Crue's second album, "Shout at the Devil", was released in 1983. It was inspired by Nikki's fascination with black magic, but he quit practicing when he became too scared. One night, Tom Zutaut from Elektra Records visited Nikki at the house he was sharing with Lita Ford. Tom swore that he saw objects moving freely around the house.
5. What song is this from? "I'm such a good, good boy. I just need a new toy. I tell you what, girl, dance for me. I'll keep you over-employed. Just tell me a story, you know the one I need."

Answer: Girls, Girls, Girls

In 1984, Vince, Mick, and Tommy hosted a four-day party at Vince's house. By the second day, Mick was fed up with the chaos, and he walked outside on the beach and passed out in the water. On the fourth day, Vince and Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley rode to the store to buy some more liquor. Vince was severely intoxicated, and on the way home, he crashed head-on with another car. Razzle was killed, and the other driver suffered brain damage. Vince was sentenced to 30 days in jail (but he was let out after only 19), paid $2.6 million to the victims' families and performed 200 hours of community service.
6. What classic song are these lyrics from? "If you can't find a partner, use a wooden chair."

Answer: Jailhouse Rock

Their third album, "Theatre of Pain", was released in 1985. The song "Home Sweet Home" was the most requested video on MTV for four months. In 1987, the band's fourth album, "Girls, Girls, Girls", arrived. During this time, Nikki was fading away due to heroin addiction, and Tommy, Vince, and Mick were falling apart from drug and alcohol abuse. During the tour, Nikki overdosed on heroin, and by the time the paramedics arrived, his heart had stopped.

He was revived by two shots of adrenaline, which inspired him to write the hit song "Kickstart My Heart".

After Nikki's brush with death, manager Doc McGhee sent the band to rehab.
7. These lyrics are from which song? "Round and round the town, the same old story's told. Better lock up your daughters when the Motleys hit the road."

Answer: Bad Boy Boogie

After Motley Crue finished rehab, they recorded their fifth album, "Dr. Feelgood". The band also broke away from Doc McGhee, who has also managed Bon Jovi, KISS, the Scorpions, and Skid Row. In one chapter of "The Dirt", Doc said he was tired of the band constantly being kicked out of hotels, pointless fighting, and other incidents of sheer stupidity happening on the road.
8. What song is this from? "She plays the role of a roving matriarch, diamond rings, fancy things, Dubonnet on the rocks."

Answer: Sumthin' for Nothin'

The band's next album, "Motley Crue", was recorded with John Corabi on vocals. Vince experienced some personal tragedy when his four-year old daughter Skylar died of stomach cancer. Motley Crue reformed in 1997 and recorded their seventh album, "Generation Swine".
9. Which song has these lyrics? "Laughing like gypsies show to show, living my life like a rolling stone. This is how my story unfolds, traveling man, never at home."

Answer: Rodeo

"Rodeo" was left off the original album, and it was added back for the re-release in 1999. Nikki said that the few times they did play "Rodeo" live, the fans really loved it.
10. What song is this from? "So many times I said you'd only be mine. I gave my blood and my tears and loved your cyanide."

Answer: You're all I Need

Motley Crue recorded the album "New Tattoo" without Tommy, and the band didn't fully reform until 2004. Their two-disc album, "Red, White, and Crue" was released in 2005. Currently Motley Crue is touring with their "Carnival of Sins" tour. I got to see them live last year, and the show was fantastic.
