The company promptly sued saying that the song depicted Barbie as a sex object and insinuated that she had inappropriate relations with her boyfriend Ken. Because this argument might sound silly to some, the also sued for copyright infringement.

The case was taken all the way to the supreme court, where Mattel lost their case, as the song is considered a parody.
