Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Above and beyond my regular duties as a bass player and backup vocalist, I am The Ox WHO wrote and performed the popular song "Boris The Spider". I died 27 June, 2002.

Answer: John Entwistle

A musical genius in his own right, Entwistle played second fiddle to the monster egos of Pete Townshend, Keith Moon, and Roger Daltry in The Who. His death came on the eve of a new tour set to launch in Las Vegas. The surviving members (Daltry, Townshend) continued with the tour after a short postponement, stating that Entwistle would have insisted on it.
2. I am the only member of my band to have never quit during any point in its history. My first solo album was called "Fish Out Of Water". Most of the time, fans watch me play a Rickenbacker 4001 series bass, though I do switch around sometimes. One of my most famous bass lines was written "roundabout" 1972.

Answer: Chris Squire

Chris Squire was classically trained as a young child, and he spent most of his youth singing in a boy's choir. He formed YES with Jon Anderson in the late 1960s and really stuck with it. Chris is the only person to have performed on every single YES album.
3. I am a session player who often has been seen on tour with Eric Clapton. When George Harrison toured Japan in 1990, Eric and I, along with Greg Phillinganes and Steve Ferrone, came along to be his band.

Answer: Nathan East

East has also worked with guitarist Joe Satriani, among others. Biddle, Alexander, and Dungey are all old jazz players.
4. I was never a Beatle, but I was acquainted with two bass players who were. I was good friends with John Lennon, and played bass for Lennon's Plastic Ono Band. I'm probably more famous for my album cover art.

Answer: Klaus Voorman

In the early days of the Beatles, Klaus Voorman lost his long time girlfriend Astrid Kirscher to then bassist Stuart Sutcliffe. Despite the love triangle, the two men remained friends as The Beatles became more and more popular. Stuart quit the band and died of a cerebral hemorrhage soon after, while McCartney officially took over on bass. Klaus remained in contact with the Beatles, and was asked to create the album cover for the hugely successful 'Revolver' LP.
5. I might cause you to scratch yourself. I'm in a very popular band that plays red-hot funky music. I sat in on Young M.C.'s 'Bust A Move'.

Answer: Flea

Flea is an accomplished bass player who has mastered the art of mixing melody and funk! His bass lines are fluid and never boring.
6. My real name is Gordon Sumner.

Answer: Sting

Sting got his nickname from a black and yellow sweater he used to wear whilst performing with the Police.
7. I share my name with a very famous Naval Commander in the American Revolution. I might also sometimes be mistaken for the Pope. Some people have said my band was the first "heavy metal" band. We were leaded, after all.

Answer: John Paul Jones

John Paul Jones (the bass player) is probably the most overshadowed great musician ever. Led Zeppelin songs are absolutely dripping with deep melody.
8. I am the lead singer of a power trio whose career has spanned over three decades. As well as singing and playing bass, I also handle most of the keyboard playing on our records. My bass lines seem to have a free will of their own.

Answer: Geddy Lee

Rush has recorded 17 studio albums and 4 live albums since 1974. Geddy Lee's real name is Gary Lee Weinrib. Gary's grandmother had a Yiddish accent, and her pronunciation of Gary sounded like "Geddy" - hence the nickname. Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson's real name is Alex Zivojinovich, which is not only hard to pronounce, but also hard to spell out on a marquee. Lifeson is the English translation of Zivojinovich.
9. My band sails the seas of cheese in a large punchbowl full of pork soda. My six-string fretless Carl Thompson bass is almost as notorious as I am. My bass playing is highly regarded, but I will probably never win an award for my singing.

Answer: Les Claypool

Les Claypool is easily the weirdest bass player in the world, and probably the best. If you have never heard a Primus song, go get one now! (Sorry if the strange multiple choice options confused you - I was just staying true to form with the "weird" motif.)
10. Some Beatles have Wings, others don't. I happen to be the one who does.

Answer: Paul McCartney

Born James Paul McCartney, Paul is the most famous bass player ever. His melodic lines and incredible gift for music make him the top role model for all bassists.
