Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" is a song by which much missed Mancunian quartet that rose to fame during the 80s?

Answer: The Smiths

First released on November of '84 on the compilation album "Hatful of Hollow", it's considered by some one of the most underrated melancholic songs by The Smiths. From the possible answers only the correct one and Joy Division hail from Manchester. The Sisters of Mercy are from Leeds and The Cure originate from Crawley.
2. "Goodnight" is a song by Canadian synth-rock band The Birthday Massacre. From which province in the maple leaf nation do they come from?

Answer: Ontario

Formed in the city of London in 1999, relocating later to Toronto also within the state of Ontario, the band is well known for its energetic antics during live shows and presence and charisma of lead singer Chibi.
3. Back to The Smiths - in the later half of '87 they penned a song which claimed that "Last Night..."

Answer: I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

"Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" came to be the third and last single extracted from their last album "Strangeways, Here We Come". It features distinct piano playing, as well as a very memorable guitar solo, and is yet again another song from the band which falls under the category of sorrow and emotions alike.
4. Now for a totally different turn in musical direction. The 2012 edition of Eurovision contained a song titled "This Is The Night", which was interpreted by Kurt Calleja. From which Mediterranean nation is this singer?

Answer: Malta

The song qualified through the semi-finals to end up in a 21st place in the grand final, totaling 41 points. Not exactly a success.
5. American band Linkin Park have an album named "Minutes To Midnight".

Answer: True

Released in May 2007, the album provided singles such as "Leave Out All The Rest", "Shadow Of The Day" or "What I've Done", among a couple others. Their third full-length release, it reached high platinum status in Germany curiously, being a triple platinum release there.
6. In the summer of 2008, British electronic music duo The Chemical Brothers released a song which had "Midnight" as the first word in the title. What's the missing later half?

Answer: Madness

It would be possible to describe the song in genre as "electro house" or "big beat"; the song was later on featured on the soundtrack for the 2010 release of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer.
7. This Australian band claims to "Need You Tonight". Which needy band would this be?

Answer: INXS

Pronounced "In Excess", this was the biggest or most recognizable hit for the band from Perth. All other bands presented as possible answers are also Australian, the exception being Duran Duran which have the United Kingdom as their home nation.
8. "The Night They Invented Champagne" is a jolly tune wrapped in jazzy sonorities that was featured on the debut release of the musical venture of which well-known comedian and voice actor?

Answer: Seth MacFarlane

Originally taken from the musical "Gigi", it's the fourth track in the line-up of "Music Is Better Than Words". A pleasant listen further revealing the richly diverse vocal capability of the creator of shows such as "American Dad!" or "Family Guy". Seth Green and Seth Rogen are also comedians and voice actors of a different caliber, while Seth Putnam was the vocalist of a now defunct grindcore band...you may know which I'm talking about since I'm not even sure I can type away the band's name around here!
9. Finnish atmospheric black metal band Ajattara have a song titled "Ikiyössä". What does this title mean in English however?

Answer: In The Eternal Night

An easy one there since I figure the speakers of Finnish around this website are a rarity. The song is featured on their 2003 album "Kuolema". The band has disbanded in 2012, also unfortunately.
10. "Sometimes...a nightsong" is a song by which German band?

Answer: Atrocity

It's featured on their 2000 album "Gemini" which appears to flirt with a more industrial sound. Formed in Ludwigsburg during the year of 1985, the death metal band which has turned more melodic and diverse in recent years is still going strong.
11. Finnish band Battlelore have an album titled "Everynight".

Answer: False

Actually it's "Evernight". Their fourth album, released in 2007, curiously enough only a couple of years before I managed to see them live. The band hails from Lappeenranta and came to existence in 1999.
12. Still on the heavy sounding route. Which Swedish death metal act has an output entitled "Nightmares Made Flesh"?

Answer: Bloodbath

Their second studio album release from 2004 which saw Peter Tägtgren replacing Mikael Åkerfeldt as their vocalist. Åkerfeldt would return to the band for more releases, with Nick Holmes as vocalist.
13. There's a body part involved in the title of the fifth studio released by alternative metal American band Deftones. The keyword night is also obviously a part of it, but which is the correct title form from the ones listed below?

Answer: Saturday Night Wrist

Released on the last day of October 2006, it features the single "Mein" which sees Serj Tankian of System of a Down fame providing guest vocals. It failed to top any charts around the world however.
14. Swedish thrash band Dr. Living Dead has a song title featuring creatures we usually associate with night and its imaginary world. Which of these is the correct title of that song?

Answer: Gremlins Night

Starting in 2007, the Scandinavian band plays a form of thrash metal considered to be crossover. The band is known for wearing skeleton masks during their live performances.
15. Arguably the true queen of contemporary pop, Australian "goddess" Kylie Minogue had a hit song entitled "On A Night Like This".

Answer: True

Featuring a distinctly memorable acoustic guitar riff on its intro, the song went on to top the Australian charts and do pretty well elsewhere in the world. It's the second single from her 2000 comeback album "Light Years" which saw the platinum mark being met a total of four times in her home country. Wow indeed, Kylie!
16. Previously mentioned song "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" originally by The Smiths has been performed live since then by the solo outfit of former lead singer Morrissey.

Answer: True

It's been performed at the well known Earl's Court concert as a setlist closer, for instance. The Smiths songs have been a staple of Morrissey's live concerts ever since the band broke up, as he rightfully owns most of them and they are obvious eternal classics which every audience longs to see being performed.
17. "Silent Night" is a song by A Camp. This is the solo side project of Nina Persson, best known as the vocalist of which group?

Answer: The Cardigans

A Camp was formed in 2001 and has met moderate success in places such as the UK (you may remember the song "I Can Buy You" better). The Cardigans disbanded in 2006 but have been since reactivated during 2012.
18. "The Night of Every Day" is a track by synth-rock act Cinemuerte. This band originates from my country, which is...? (Wish you had checked my profile before taking this quiz now, don't you?)

Answer: Portugal

Surprised? Don't be. Their debut album is from 2003 but this one song is from their better known 2008 album "Aurora Core". If you don't know about them I suggest taking a look at the video for the song "Air". Let me know what you thought of it if I made you curious enough.
19. British extreme (or arguably black, of the commercial kind) metal band Cradle of Filth have a song about something being set on flames at a nocturnal hour. Which of the options is the correct song title?

Answer: Tonight In Flames

It's from their seventh album released in the later half of 2006, "Thornography". While always under heavy critics the band has proven to be prolific having stamped the release seal on a total of ten albums. My personal favorite being "Damnation and a Day".
20. We're coming to the end of the quiz and I'm aware it must have not been an easy ride unless you're some sort of a musical match in heaven made for me. Let's take it easy then. Elton John has notoriously claimed in the past a certain day of the week's night was "Alright For Fighting". Which night was that?

Answer: Saturday

"Saturday's Night's Alright For Fighting" was first released in the summer of 1973 as a single. It's featured on his seventh studio album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and is one of the best known songs penned by the British artist.
