Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" had us all singing about Camp Grenada. Who sang this song about a kid's letter home from camp?

Answer: Alan Sherman

Alan Sherman had a big hit with this tune which he tried to parlay into a novelty music career, sort of like Weird Al. Only Sherman never really recovered from the success of this one hit.
2. "They're coming to take me away, ha, ha, ho ho..." Not much of a song, really, but it charted in the early '60s. Who, ahhh, sang it?

Answer: Napoleon XIV

The song was nothing more than a drum track with some guy using an obvious alias. No doubt he's now a used car salesmen in Lompoc.
3. Remember "Monster Mash"? What music group is mentioned in this annual Halloween fav?

Answer: The Crypt Kicker Five

The Crypt Kicker Five were the featured act at the dance where the Monster Mash was the hit. "They did the mash, they did the Monster Mash".
4. Everyone remembers Tiny Tim's virtually unlistenable rendition of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" but what was the name of his bride?

Answer: Miss Vicki

What was this woman thinking? The wedding took place on the Johnny Carson show and still holds one of the all-time highest ratings for "The Tonight Show".
5. "Ally-oop-oop-oop-oop. Ally oop-oop-oop-oop." Need I go on? Who sang it?

Answer: The Hollywood Argyles

Ally-Oop, for those who don't remember, was a comic strip character who "swung through the branches as we all know."
6. "Maddie told Haddie about this thing she saw..." Just what had Maddie seen?

Answer: Wooly Bully

Sam the Sham had a super hit with this thing. He followed up with "Little Red Riding Hood, you sure are looking good, walking through these spooky ol' woods alone." Sounds a little creepy to me, but hey, times change.
7. Ok, if you get this one you spent waaayyy too much time listening to your Sony portable. Who sang (or whined) "Please Mr. Custer"?

Answer: Larry Verne

"Please Mr. Custer, I don't want to go..." Larry Verne had a few short trips to the charts. This was just one of them.
8. Who is it who "walks through the classroom smooth and slow" and has also been known to "call the English teacher Daddy-O"?

Answer: Charlie Brown

The Coasters had a string of hits but they're best remembered for this novelty classic. You know, Charlie Brown didn't seem that cool in his comic strip.
9. Moving forward in time, who created the quintessential rock novelty "96 Tears"?

Answer: ? and the Mysterians

Having little success as Exclamation Point (!) and the Mysterians, a simple name changed proved the key. The song was under 2 minutes long which radio stations loved 'cuz they got to those commercials quicker.
10. And finally, who or what was the Teaberry Shuffle?

Answer: a little dance you did chewing Teaberry gum

Teaberry Gum (whatever happened to that stuff, it was pretty tasty)ran a series of TV ads showing regular folks doing this little jig after putting a stick of the gum in their mouths. The commercials were so popular, the Teaberry Shuffle ended up as a '45 playing on my Zeneth portable record player. I wonder where I put that thing.
