"Be" from the "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" album reached Number 34 when it was released as a single. The album was Neil's ninth studio album and grossed more than the film based on Richard Bach's novel did. Neil composed the songs for the soundtrack and Lee Holdridge conducted the orchestra for the recording.

The soundtrack album earned Neil a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe Award. Although Roger Ebert only gave it one star the film was nominated for Best Film Editing and Best Cinematography. "Dialogue" was from Neil's 1972 "Hot August Night" album. "Skybird" and "Anthem" were album cuts from the "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" LP.

Dallas Country and Pop artist B.W. Stevenson released a version of the Daniel Moore composition "Shambala" a week before Three Dog Night, technically making the Three Dog Night release a cover version. His version only reached Number 66. "My Maria" reached Number Nine in 1973. Stevenson was only 38 when he died undergoing heart surgery.
Cory Wells handled lead vocals on the Three Dog Night version released as a single from their ninth album, "Cyan".
Shambala is also spelled Shambhala or Shamballa according to Tibetan Buddhist traditions. It is supposed to be a pure and peaceful place.
Jud Strunk took "Daisy A Day" to Number 14 in 1973. "Dead Skunk" was a Top Twenty single from Loudon Wainwright III. "Swamp Witch" by Jim Stafford barely squeaked into the Top Forty at Number 39 in 1973.

Keith Richards and Mick Jagger wrote all of the songs for the album and Mick Taylor was the guitarist for the band during the sessions. Not only was "Angie" a chart topper, the album also reached Number One in the US.
"Angel" was a 1973 Number 20 Aretha Franklin single. Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Clair" was a 1972 Top Ten dingle. "Dandelion" was a 1967 Stones single.

"Beautiful" was from the "Tapestry" album. "Surely" and "Music" were on Carole's 1971 "Music" album.

The Number One single "Photograph" was written by George Harrison with Ringo. Ringo's cover of Johnny Burnette's 1960 hit "You're Sixteen" also topped the charts. In 1971 Ringo made the US Top Ten with "It Don't Come Easy" and again the following year with "Back Off Boogaloo". "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen" were from the 1973 "Ringo" album. Former band mates contributed to the "Ringo" album in various ways. All three Beatles lent songwriting expertise on several tracks. John Lennon composed "I'm the Greatest". George Harrison wrote "Sunshine Life for Me (Sail Away Raymond)" and co-wrote "You and Me (Babe)" with Mal Evans. "Six O'Clock" was written by Paul and Linda McCartney.

When they released "Funky Worm" from the "Pleasure" LP in 1973 they had their first US Top Twenty single. The Ohio Players would go on to chart seven Top Forty hits including their two Number One singles "Fire" (1974) and "Love Rollercoaster" (1975).

Foster Sylvers released his "Foster Sylvers" album in June, 1973. His brother, Leon wrote "Misdemeanor". His follow up was a cover of Dee Clark's fifties single "Hey Little Girl". Foster made the rounds of television variety shows following the release of "Misdemeanor" and the following year he released "Foster Sylvers Featuring Pat and Angie Sylvers". In 1975 he recorded with his brothers and sisters as The Sylvers, releasing their "Showcase" LP.
He sang with his brother Edmund on the single "Boogie Fever". After changing to Capitol Records and releasing another eponymous album Foster turned to producing.
The 1973 Number 14 "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" was sung by Donny Osmond. The Jackson 5 took both Hallelujah Day" and "Get It Together" to Number 28 in 1973. The 1973 Number three single "Heartbeat - It's a Lovebeat" was recorded by The DeFranco Family featuring Tony DeFranco.

James Seals was playing guitar for the Texas band Dean Beard and the Crew Cuts when Dash Crofts joined the band. Beard, Seals and Crofts relocated to California and became members of The Champs after they had released their hit single "Tequila". In 1963 they left to back Glen Campbell before Seals and Crofts decided to pair up in 1969, obtaining a record contract which led to their first album, "Seals and Crofts" (1969). Their fourth album, "Summer Breeze" (1972), reached Number Seven on the album charts.
"Peaceful" was a 1973 Number 12 single from Helen Reddy. The Carpenters took "Sing" to Number Three the same year and Aubrey by Bread held at Number 15.
