Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The tracks on this album include "Blister in the Sun", "Add It Up", and "Gone Daddy Gone." What is the name of this eponymous album released by an American folk band in 1983?

Answer: Violent Femmes

Violent Femmes were formed by a trio of young men from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They broke out when they were playing for handouts on a sidewalk when Jimmy Honeyman-Scott, the guitarist for the Pretenders, walked by. The Pretenders were playing that night, and the well-known band invited the Femmes to play at the end of the set. Sadly, Honeyman-Scott died within a year of a cocaine overdose, at the age of 25.

3. Who released the album "Bad Reputation" which included a track of the same name in the early 1980s? The same track was used as the opening song for the tv "Freaks and Geeks" 20 years later?

Answer: Joan Jett

Joan Jett was born Joan Marie Larkin in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, a neighborhood on the historic Philadelphia Main Line. She picked up a guitar at 14, and, after her family relocated to southern California, joined the Runaways. "Bad Reputation" was her first solo album. Music critic Steve Huey from "AllMusic" reviewed her album favorably, saying it had elements of 1950s classics, the Ramones, and everything in between.

Joan Jett played with the Blackhearts.

Answer: The Ramones - "Ramones"

When one of the young bandmates took on the name Dee Dee Ramone in an homage to a pseudonym Paul McCartney had used, the other bandmates decided to take on the same name. In addition to Dee Dee, the band consisted of, at various times, Johnny Ramone, Joey Ramone, and Tommy Ramone, among other Ramones. Their later albums brought them greater success.

Answer: Please Please Me

The single "Please Please Me" was such a hit that the Beatles's producer hurried them to create an album as soon as possible. The result was the album of the same name that was created in under a day, as the musicians simply played through the repertoire they'd been using for live shows. They added a cover of "Twist and Shout" on the end.

This image was titled "Please?" by the photographer, who said the cat was asking for a snack at the time.

Answer: UB40

UB40's "Signing Off" was a big hit in England when it was released, with its political commentary mixed with a Caribbean-reggae sound. Without a studio, they recorded their songs over the course of a few days, primary in one of their rented rooms. The album was well-received with listeners as well as critics, who lauded the band for its originality.

A few years after "Signing Off," UB40 released a hit single titled "Red, Red Wine."
