Under the brave black flag I fly,
Than play a sanctimonious part,
With a pirate head and a pirate heart.
Away to the cheating world go you,
Where pirates all are well-to-do;

And live and die a Pirate King.
For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing

For I am a Pirate King!"

His life was plagued with leukemia which brought about his death on September 20, 1984. "Lincoln Park Pirates" was written about a towing company in Chicago, which towed away almost anything. Here is one of the verses from "Lincoln Park Pirates."

The Lincoln Park Pirates are we,
From Wilmette to Gary, there's nothin' so hairy

And no one can make us shut down."

I hope you enjoy the lyrics from two of the verses!

"Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage, plunder, we rifle and loot.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We extort and pilfer, we filch and sack.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.
Maraud and embezzle and even highjack.
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho."
7. Climb up here onto the treasure chest and help to celebrate the life of a pirate! First you must tell me true, which words belong in this verse for you. "Fifteen men on a dead man's chest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum Drink and the devil had done _____"

Answer: For the rest

"Dead Man's Chest" also known as "Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest" was expanded into a poem by Young E. Allison in 1891. The first verse, originally written by Robert Louis Stevenson for "Treasure Island" (1883.) was originally called "Derelect". Some of the lyrics go like this:

"Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
The mate was fixed by the bosun's pike
The bosun brained with a marlinspike
And cookey's throat was marked belike
It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there they lay, all good dead men
Like break o'day in a boozing ken
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Fifteen men of the whole ship's list
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Dead and be damned and the rest gone whist!
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
The skipper lay with his nob in gore
Where the scullion's axe his cheek had shore
And the scullion he was stabbed times four
And there they lay, and the soggy skies
Dripped down in up-staring eyes
In murk sunset and foul sunrise
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum."
8. Don't scuttle the ship by choosing the wrong word that belongs in these lines. "Pull away, me lads o' the Cardiff Rose And _____ the Jolly Roger!"

Roger McGuinn, of "The Byrds" folk rockers recorded an album dedicated to the sea. The album, "Cardiff Rose" (1976), included the song "Jolly Roger" (1976), which goes like this:

Our homeland far behind us
Being hunted by the King's Navy
But sure he'd never find us

Pull away me lads of the Cardiff Rose
And hoist the Jolly Roger"
9. No parlay on this one. "Jack Sparrow" would know which word to choose! "Yo, ho, haul together, hoist the colors high. Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we _______"

Answer: Die

"Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End" (2007), included the song "Hoist the Colors" by Hans Zimmer. Mr. Zimmer composed music for over 100 different films including "Rain Man" (1988), "Gladiator" (2000) and all of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series. Here are the lyrics for "Hoist the Colors" to entertain you:

"Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.
The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we'll roam.
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.
Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
- with the keys to the cage...
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler's Green!
The bell has been raised
from it's watery grave...
Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die."
10. You'd best sober up so we can pillage and plunder with clear heads. Which character will complete this line? "What shall we do with a drunken _____?"

Answer: Sailor

"Drunken Sailor" is a well known and traditional sea shanty also known as "What Should We Do with a Drunken Sailor?" The lyrics were first published in 1891, however the actual author is unknown. Here, in part, is one variation of the song:

"What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Early in the morning.

Chorus:
Way-hay, up she rises
Way-hay, up she rises
Way-hay, up she rises
Early in the morning.

Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Put him in the long boat 'til he's sober
Early in the morning."
