Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What singer, who also appears in Death Cab for Cutie, is a member of Postal Service?

Answer: Ben Gibbard

Jimmy Tamborello is the other member of Postal Service, who appears in other bands such as Dntel, Headset and Figurine. Jenny Lewis appears in the band We Will Become Silhouettes' music video, and Chris Walla plays piano in the band's song, as well as having much of his guitar playing inserted into the Postal Service's songs.
2. The band was going to be sued by the US Postal Service, who said that they had a trademark on the phrase "Postal Service."

Answer: True

This issue was eventually resolved, and the band now plays at the USPS's annual National Executive Conference. Additionally, the USPS's official website sells the band's CDs.
3. Which song by the Postal Service is actually about a nuclear fallout?

Answer: We Will Become Silhouettes

This song includes lyrics such as "I've got a cupboard with cans of food, filtered water and pictures of you, and I'm not coming out until this is all over." Also, the lyrics "I wanted to walk through the empty streets, and feel something constant under my feet, but all the newspapers recommended that I stay indoors, because the air outside will make, our cells divide at an alarming rate, until our skin simply cannot hold, all our insides in, and that's when we'll explode" describe the effects nuclear radiation have on our body.
4. Which song contains the lyrics "Inhaling thrills, through 20-dollar bills and the tumblers are drained and then flooded again and again"?

Answer: This Place is a Prison

"This Place is a Prison" is believed to be about a man struggling with alcoholism. The lines "what does it take, to get a drink in this place?" help determine this.
5. Which of these songs was used in a commercial for M&Ms?

Answer: Such Great Heights

"Such Great Heights" has also been used in "Grey's Anatomy's" original soundtrack, the trailer for "Laguna Beach", and on the UPN drama "Veronica Mars."
6. Which of these is the correct title of Postal Service's 2003 album?

Answer: Give Up

"Good News for People Who Love Bad News" was released by Modest Mouse in 2004, "Transaltantacism" is Death Cab for Cutie's album, also released in 2003, and "Chutes too Narrow" is an ablum by The Shins, which was also released in 2003.
7. What company has an commercial that strikingly resembles the music video for "Such Great Heights"?

Answer: Apple

The video is of workers in white suits, going about work with complex machines, depicting computer chips among other bits of technology. In both videos, there is a zoom out of a computer chip, along with many other resemblences.
8. Which of these songs did The Shins cover?

Answer: We Will Become Silhouettes

"We Will Become Silhouettes" is arguably the most popular of Postal Service's songs. The music video is of a rather tacky house, where a family band has been started. They have been forced to entertain themselves in the wake of a nuclear fallout, and are prepared with various cans of unidentifiable canned foods.

The end of the music video shows the entire family out on a bike ride, culminating in a viewing of the sunset by the entire family.
9. Which of these songs contains the lyrics "Last week I had the strangest dream, where everything was exactly how it seemed, where there was never any mystery, of who shot John F. Kennedy."

Answer: Sleeping In

This song also contains the lyrics "and then that night I had that strange dream, Where everything was exactly how it seemed
Where concerns about the world getting warmer
The people thought they were just being rewarded
For treating others as they like to be treated
For obeying stop signs and curing diseases
For mailing letters with the address of the sender
Now we can swim any day in November."
10. Postal Service got its name due to the fact that the songs are sent to each band member (Tamborello and Gibbard) through the post.

Answer: True

Yes, this is true. Tamborello would send Gibbard CDs full of electronic music, and Gibbard would alter them as he saw fit. He would first manipulate them on his computer, then add guitar, drums, and keyboard. Much of this was recorded by Death Cab for Cutie's guitarist Chris Walla. Gibbard would also add the lyrics, and they would then have a song. Thanks for taking my quiz, and I hope you enjoyed it!
