Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the first Queen album to feature a title track?

Answer: "A Kind of Magic" (1986)

While there is a song entitled "Sheer Heart Attack", it appears on 1977's "News of the World". The words "hot space" are heard in the song "Dancer". Also, "Play the Game" is NOT a title track to "The Game".
2. The albums "A Night at the Opera" and "A Day at the Races" were named for what?

Answer: Marx Brothers' movies

In early 1977, Queen presented Groucho Marx with Gold Record plaques for these two albums. The movies were released in 1935 and 1937, respectively.
3. In 1983, guitarist Brian May recorded an EP called "Starfleet Project". This album featured the talents of Alan Gratzer (drummer of REO Speedwagon), Phil Chen (bass), and Fred Mandel (Queen's session keyboardist). Who was the other guitarist?

Answer: Eddie Van Halen

From the liner notes: "In the last solo of 'Let Me Out,' Edward [Van Halen] tortures his top string to its audible death and winds quite naturally on the remaining five."
4. Many people are familiar with the song "Flash's Theme" (aka "Flash"). What is the other song with full lyrics on the "Flash Gordon" soundtrack?

Answer: The Hero

"The Kiss" features some improvised vocals by Freddie Mercury, while "Flash To the Rescue" and "Flash's Theme Reprise" use elements of the chorus to "Flash's Theme". But "The Hero" (which is played during the closing credits) is the only other song on the soundtrack with listed lyrics.
5. What was the name of Roger Taylor's "side project" of the late 1980s?

Answer: The Cross

The Cross released the album "Shove It" in 1988. The song "Heaven for Everyone", which was featured on this album, was later re-released on Queen's 1995 album "Made In Heaven" (with Freddie on vocals).
6. Which Queen member was the first to release a solo album?

Answer: Roger Taylor

Roger Taylor released "Fun In Space" in 1981. Freddie's first official solo work as a member of Queen was the song "Love Kills" (from the Giorgio Moroder soundtrack to Fritz Lang's "Metropolis"), in 1984, followed by the album "Mr. Bad Guy" in 1985. Brian released "Starfleet Project" in 1983 (see above), but his first official solo effort, "Back to the Light", came out in 1993. John Deacon, who never released a solo album, officially retired in the late 1990s. NOTE -- Though Freddie recorded and released the songs "I Can Hear Music" and "Going Back" in 1973, they were done under the pseudonym Larry Lurex. And these songs were not included in an album release until years later.
7. Which of these people was NOT a producer on Queen's albums?

Answer: Rudi Dolezal

Rudi Dolezal and partner Hannes Rossacher were better known as "The Torpedo Twins". They directed and produced many of Queen's music videos, the three-hour documentary "The Magic Years", as well as other Queen-related film and video projects.
8. How many of the songs on the 1995 album "Made In Heaven" were originally solo songs by Freddie Mercury?

Answer: two

They were "Made In Heaven" and "I Was Born To Love You", both originally from Freddie's first solo album, "Mr. Bad Guy". The other "solo songs" were "Heaven for Everyone" (originally on The Cross's "Shove It") and "Too Much Love Will Kill You" (Originally on Brian May's "Back To the Light").
9. Which Queen album has an actual contributing credit to God in the liner notes?

Answer: Jazz

For the song "Dead On Time", Queen included the credit "Thunderbolt courtesy of God."
10. What other rock star died on November 24, 1991, the same day as Freddie Mercury?

Answer: Eric Carr (KISS)

Eric Carr succombed to a brain hemorrhage brought about by cancer the same day Freddie Mercury died. Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark died of alcohol poisoning on January 8, 1991. Gene Clark had a heart attack on May 24, and Rob Tyner suffered heart failure on September 17.
