Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The track 'My Iron Lung' was first released on an EP before the release of 'the Bends'. What was the name of this EP?

Answer: My Iron Lung EP

'We Will Rock You' is a song by Queen.
2. Thom's voice has changed considerably since their debut 'Pablo Honey'. When the band perform older songs in their recent tour, how does Thom sing them?

Answer: He sings them in his new slavering whimpering off-key warble.

Thom is a very versatile vocalist. He can sing anything.
3. How did they achieve that computerized voice on the track 'Fitter Happier'?

Answer: They used a program on a Mac called 'Simpletext'

It's a voice setting called 'Fred'.
4. What key is 'Creep' in?

Answer: G

The chord progression throughout is: G, B, C, Cm looped. Ed plays the clean parts during the verses with his Rickenbacker (through a Mesa Boogie amp with plenty of chorus). Jonny comes in just before the choruses with that famous 'chainsaw' effect before going mental with loads of distortion belting out of his small Fender tranny amp.

In the video Thom is also playing guitar but performing live he's hands free so he can concentrate more on the whimpering and drooling.
5. Which computer's logo appears on a few of Thom Yorke's guitars?

Answer: Apple's

When I saw them live, Thom had two telecasters with apple stickers. I once saw him on the 'Jools Holland' program playing a brown accoustic guitar with an upside-down one on it.
6. Which type of guitar does Jonny usually play?

Answer: a Fender Telecaster

He sometimes playes a Fender Starcaster. Thom used to always use guitars.
7. Which of the following songs has finally been released officially?

Answer: True Love Waits

A live version has been released on the 'I might be Wrong' live EP.
8. Which unreleased song has the following line: 'you'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking'?

Answer: Big ideas (don't get any) or 'Nude'

Great track. I wished they'd release it. Bits of the song feature in the 'Meeting People Is Easy' videotape.
9. What was the song 'Fog' originally known as?

Answer: Alligators in New York Sewers

They played this song on the road in sketch form before they recorded and renamed it. A more recent live version has popped up on an import disc where it's listed as 'Fog (again)' but it's the original (and preferred) piano ballad arrangement.
10. Name another indie band that came from Oxford that emerged around the same time as Radiohead.

Answer: Supergrass

Although quite different from each other in terms of sound and image, Radiohead and Supergrass are two of England's finest bands of recent times.
