Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On which studio album did Ronnie James Dio first sing(LP)?

Answer: Elf- Elf

Actually, the first album he sang on is a demo called "Ronnie and the Prophets", but that's an EP not a standard studio album.

So the first LP he in which did the vocals, was the self titled debut album of his band, Elf. The album was released in 1972. This was only album where he was credited as Ronnie James Padavona, which is his real name.
2. In what band did Ronnie James Dio sing immediately before he joined Black Sabbath?

Answer: Rainbow

He left Rainbow in 1978, after the release of their third album, "Long Live Rock and Roll". He sang on the first three Rainbow albums, "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow", "Rising" and "Long Live Rock and Roll".

Before Rainbow he was in Elf and he released also three albums with them.

Ronnie and the Red Caps was his early band.

He formed his own band in 1982, after he left Sabbath.

He was the replacement of Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath.
3. Rainbows were very important in Ronnie's life. Which lyrics doesn't feature the word "rainbow"?

Answer: Dio- Bring Down the Rain

"Stargazer" is the fifth song on Rainbow's second studio alum, "Rising". The lyrics tell the story of a wizard who is obsessed with the stars, so he enslaves some people and forces them to build him a huge tower to reach the stars. The songs lyrics (where the rainbow is mentioned) gave the title to the album, "Rising": "I see a rainbow rising, look there, on the horizon".

Hear 'N' Aid is an organisation, formed by Ronnie James Dio in 1986. The Hear 'N' Aid project released an album with the same name, to raise money to the starving children. The album features songs by Motörhead, Accept, Dio etc. "Stars" is the first song, which was made by featuring members from 20 metal bands. The singing was shared between Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Dave Meniketti (Y&T), Kevin DuBrow (Quiet Riot), Eric Bloom (Blue Öyster Cult), Paul Shortino (Quiet Riot, Rough Cutt), Geoff Tate (Qeensryche) and Don Dokken. The part when the rainbow is mentioned is sang by Paul Shortino: "And we all want to touch a rainbow".

"Sign of the Southern Cross" is the third song on Sabbath's second studio album featuring Dio, "Mob Rules". The part when rainbow is mentioned: "There's a rainbow that will shimmer, when the summer falls".
4. Dio had ten studio albums. How many Dio albums have title tracks?

Every album has a title except the 1996 "Angry Machines", which is generally considered as Dio's worst album. In my opinion it's not that bad, but it's the weakest for sure.
5. What is Dio's birth name?

Answer: Ronald James Padavona

He was born in the US, but he has Italian ancestors. The only album where he was credited as Ronnie James Padavona is the 1972, "Elf" album. "Dio" means god in Italian and that's how he got that name.

Answer: Oh, plastic dreams and fast machines, pushing it to the limit

These lyrics are from my favorite tracks of each Dio era Sabbath album.

Answer: Heaven and Hell - The Devil You Know

"The Devil You Know" is the only album by Heaven and Hell. Heaven and Hell's lineup is the same as Black Sabbath's was in 1981. To avoid confusion with Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne on vocals, they gave the band the name of the Dio era Sabbath's most famous album.
