Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Staring blindly into space, getting up to splash my face" is a line from which song, that was released in 1970?

Answer: 25 or 6 to 4

From the album "Chicago II", "25 or 6 to 4". "Apollo 100" by Joy, is an instrumental which came out in 1972. "In The Year 2525" by Zager and Evans, was a hit in 1969 and as for the Brothers Johnson "Strawberry Letter 23", it charted in 1977.
2. Which 'number' song by a famous four-some, contains the line "I begged her not to go and I begged her on my bended knees"?

Answer: One After 909

"One After 909" is off the album "Let It Be". Oddly enough, "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)" was not included on any original vinyl album but was actually the B side to the single, "Let It Be". "When I'm Sixty-Four" is off "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
3. Which 1969 hit contained the lyrics "Now I spend my time just making rhymes of yesterday"?

Answer: One

One (excuse the pun) of a string of hits for Three Dog Night and a cover of this, a top ten hit in my country for Johnny Farnham. "1-2-3 Red Light" by The 1910 Fruitgum Company, charted in 1968 and of course Meatloaf gave us "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" off the album "Bat Out Of Hell" in 1977.
4. Name the song made famous by a bearded wobble-board player, that included this line; "Gaily they played each summer's day, warriors both of course"

Answer: Two Little Boys

This was originally recorded by British Music Hall star Harry Lauder in 1903, decades later, Rolf Harris was to make it his own. In Britain, this was the biggest selling single of 1969 and in Australia, coveted the #1 position for seven weeks.
5. The following line is taken from which song, lamenting the pain of those awkward teenage years "and those of us with ravaged faces lacking in the social graces"

Answer: At 17

"At 17" is an account Janis' feelings of alienation as a teen, from the ages of 12-14. However, she felt the number "17" fitted the lyrics better. "17 (I Wish I Was)" is by The Radiators, "The Six Teens' by Sweet and "Hey Nineteen" was a hit for Steely Dan.
6. A band question this time. Which band had a song which included the line "I keep your picture upon the wall, it hides a nasty stain that's lyin' there"?

Answer: 10CC

Yep, it was 10CC and the song is "I'm Not In Love". Apparently, the idea for the song came from lead singer Eric Stewart, saying to his wife that if he kept saying "I Love You" over and over, it wouldn't mean anything even though he did love her. Who'd have thought?
7. How many Red or Luft Balloons did Nena send "floating in the summer sky"?

Answer: 99

"99 Luftballoons" was originally released in German in 1983 and re-released in the English translation, "99 Red Balloons" in 1984.
8. Which band had a #1 hit, with a remake of a Neil Diamond song that inludes the lyric "I feel a million dollar when you're just in my hand"?

Answer: UB40

Did you know that the inspiration for the name UB40, came from the letters and numbers of the form issued to unemployed people in Britain, so that they may receive benefits - "Unemployment Benefits form 40"
9. The line "They'll split your pretty cranium, and fill it full of air" is from which song by David Bowie?

Answer: 1984

"1984" was in fact released in 1974 and is off "Diamond Dogs", a concept album based on George Orwell's novel "1984". "1999" is by Prince, "Sex Crime (1984)" was a hit for the Eurythmics and "Pressure Tested 1984" is by Grinspoon.
10. The line "The sleepin' pill I took was just a waste of time" is a line from the song "(Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep At All". Can you name the band?

Answer: The Fifth Dimension

Although this was a collective collaboration as a group, this song was in fact, a Marilyn McCoo solo effort from the album "Individually & Collectively" released in 1972.
