Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who first recorded "I Love Rock and Roll"?

Answer: The Arrows

Alan Merill wrote this song in 1975 as a response to the Rolling Stones song "It's Only Rock and Roll but I Like It." The Arrows recorded a great version of this song but it didn't become a hit. Then, Joan Jett recorded it and it somehow became a huge hit for her. How this happened is beyond me, as I actually prefer the Arrows' version of the song.
2. Which song was written by Gary Glitter?

Answer: Do You Wanna Touch Me?

"Do You Wanna Touch Me?" was written by Gary Glitter. It became a hit for him. Then Joan Jett covered it and it became a hit for her. In 2015, Glitter was sentenced to 16 years in prison for having sex with a 13-year-old. Come to think if it, the words "Every girl and boy needs a little joy" should have been a warning. Jett continued to play the song live even after Glitter's prison sentence.

This isn't the only time Jett would pay tribute to Glitter. Other Glitter songs that she covered include "Doing Alright With the Boys" and "I Love you Love me Love."
3. Tommy James wrote which 1968 hit song which became a hit for Joan Jett?

Answer: Crimson and Clover

"Crimson and Clover" would become the second Tommy James song to become a hit for someone else after "Mony Mony" became a hit for Billy Idol in the 1980s. This song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart for Tommy James and number seven on that same chart for Joan Jett.
4. Which Bruce Springsteen song did Jett cover in 1987?

Answer: Light of Day

Bruce Springsteen wrote "Light of Day" for Joan Jett to perform in the 1987 movie of the same name. The song went to number 33 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2011, a magazine called "American Songwriter" named "Light of Day" their favorite movie song.
5. Which song did Sly Stone write in 1968?

Answer: Everyday People

"Everyday People" is a song that protests discrimination. Sly Stone faced racial discrimination. Joan Jett faced gender discrimination. They both felt it was necessary for them to do this song. The song went to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for Sly Stone. It wasn't a hit for Joan Jett.
6. "Love is All Around" was the theme song for what show?

Answer: Mary Tyler Moore

"Love is All Around" was written by Sonny Curtis and was the theme song for the "Mary Tyler Moore Show". Joan Jett then covered it and put it on her greatest hits album called "Fit to be Tied."
7. Who wrote "Roadrunner"?

Answer: Jonathan Richman

Richman was a huge fan of the Velvet Underground. Their song "Sister Ray" inspired "Roadrunner." Joan Jett covered the song and put it on her album "The Hit List" (a covers album).
8. Joan Jett released a cover of a song by Australian band AC/DC in 2006.

Answer: False

In 2006, Joan Jett released a song called "A.C.D.C." The SONG was called that. The band who did it originally was called Sweet, who were a British glam rock band who were popular in the U.K. during the 1970s and less popular in the USA. Jett did cover the AC/DC song "Dirty Deeds," but that was in 1990 not 2006.
9. In 1990, Joan Jett released an entire album of covers. Who wrote "Have You Ever Seen The Rain"?

Answer: John Fogerty

It's ironic that Jett chose to cover this song for her first album of all cover songs, because Fogerty wrote this song for Creedence Clearwater's Revival's first and only album of all ORIGINAL songs. This is a song about famous musicians not being happy that they were famous. That's what "Have you ever seen the rain coming down on a sunny day?" means.
10. In 1990, Joan Jett released an entire album of cover songs. What band originally recorded "Love me Two Times"?

Answer: Doors

"Love Me Two Times" was released in 1967 by the Doors. The Doors were known for using instruments that during their time period were rarely used in rock and roll. "Love Me Two Times" uses a harpsichord, a popular instrument in classical music but not commonly used in rock music.

The song was banned in New Haven for being "Too Controversial." Obviously controversy is not something Joan Jett is afraid of.
