Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which 1960s Stones song is this? "Oooh, see the fire is sweepin' our very street today."

Answer: Gimme Shelter

This is the first song on "Let it Bleed", an album many feel to be the band's finest. "Gimme Shelter" is also the title of the Rolling Stones 1969 tour film. This is an outstanding rock tour documentary but, sadly, is best known for capturing most of the violence of the Stones tour-ending free concert at Altamont Speedway in California.

The violence, between members of the Hell's Angels biker gang and the audience, culminated in the murder of a young fan named Meredith Hunter. Like most Rolling Stones songs this one is credited to "Jagger/Richards", but was in fact written enirely by Keith.
2. Which song does this funny line belong to? "..and your father's still perfecting ways of making ceiling wax."

Answer: 19th Nervous Breakdown

This song has some of that infamously devious and misogynistic songwriting that Mick Jagger was so good at around 1965-1966. It was first released as a single on February 4, 1966 and reached #1 in the U.K. and #2 in the U.S.
3. Which song are these lyrics from? "Tell me, Honey. What will I do? When I'm hungry and thirsty too."

Answer: You Got the Silver

These are lines from "You Got the Silver", another from "Let it Bleed". Keith Richards wrote and sang this love song about his girlfriend, Anita Pallenberg. Richards did not share Jagger's sneering attitude towards women, or at least it never showed in his lyrics.
4. On which Stones song can one hear Mick and Keith crooning, "..and I won't forget to put roses on your grave." ?

Answer: Dead Flowers

This song was included on the 1971 release "Sticky Fingers", another great Stones record. It's country feel was influenced by Gram Parsons of the band The Flying Burrito Brothers, a close friend of Keith's at that time.
5. What hard rocking song do these lines come from? "I've been beggin', on my knees. I've been kickin', help me please."

Answer: Can't You Hear Me Knockin'

This is a fantastic song from "Sticky Fingers". This song features one of the greatest guitar riffs ever and ends with a long jam which includes Bobby Keys on saxophone, Rocky Dijon on the congas, and Billy Preston on organ.
6. Which song is this from? "I'll steal your mistress from under your nose. I'll go easy with your cold fanged anger. I'll stick my knife right down your throat."

Answer: Midnight Rambler

Disturbing lines from another of the great songs from "Let it Bleed". This is a song in which Mick Jagger likens himself to a serial killer, such as the Boston Strangler.
7. Which song contains these lines? "Try to stop the wave behind your eyeballs, uh-huh. Drop your reds, drop your greens and blues."

Answer: Sweet Virginia

Another country-tinged song. This one is from "Exile on Main St.", released in 1972.
8. Which song, sung by Keith Richards, has these lines? "The scars healing but the dealer's squealing. The pool's in but the patio ain't dry."

Answer: Little T&A

These are all songs written and sung by Keith Richards. "Little T&A" was included on the "Tattoo You" album in 1981. This seems to be a story about Keith's new found love, Patti Hansen, and his recovery from heroin addiction.
9. Which ballad do these lines come from? "Faith has been broken. Tears must be cried. Let's do some living, after we die."

Answer: Wild Horses

This is another song from "Sticky Fingers", and is yet another song credited to Mick and Keith that was written entirely by Keith. "Ruby Tuesday" is also one of those songs.
10. Which raunchy rock song did Mick come up with this line for? "I can see that you're fifteen years old, but I don't want your I.D."

Answer: Stray Cat Blues

This song can be found on the 1968 release, "Beggars' Banquet". Many critics and fans alike feel that this record was the beginning of the greatest musical period for the band. "Exile on Main St." in 1972 is seen as the end of that period. This song and "Sympathy For the Devil" alone make this a CD worth buying.
