Take That Gobbledygook Trivia Quiz

I'm no fan of Take That, and it seemed to me that some of their lyrics made no sense. So I looked more closely, and I was right. Some of their lyrics are meaningless gobbledygook. See if you can work out which song some of these daft lyrics come from.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Take That song contains the meaningless line "Don't catch the fall when I play real hard"?

Answer: Take That & Party

Written by Gary Barlow and Ray Hedges, "Take That & Party", is from their first album, of the same name, released in 1992.
2. "Unaware but underlined I figured out this story". Any idea what that means? Me neither, but presumably Take That understand it; which one of their songs is it from?

Answer: Back For Good

Gary Barlow wrote the song, which appeared on their third studio album, "Nobody Else", released in 1995, and was their biggest hit single.
3. "I know you wanna be my salvation, the one that I can always depend." From which Take That song is this line, which would make some sense if it ended in "on" or "upon" ?

Answer: Patience

Written by the band with the help of John Shanks, "Patience" was the second track on their comeback album "Beautiful World", which was released in 2006.
4. On which Take That song does the rather odd line "For the day we wish the sun" appear ?

Answer: These Days

"These Days" was written by the three remaining members of the band, together with Jamie Norton and Ben Mark, and was the opening track on their 2014 album "III" .
5. On which Take That song can you hear them sing the extraordinary line "Got a fist of pure emotion" ?

Answer: Back For Good

Despite its strange lyrics, "Back For Good" reached Number One in the singles charts of 31 different countries.
6. In one of their songs Take That were apparently "Learning how to dance the rain", whatever that means! Which song?

Answer: The Flood

"The Flood", which must contain some of the most pretentious lyrics of any pop song, was the opening track on "Progress" (2010), the band's first album after the return of Robbie Williams.
7. "Been a lonely conversation to this photograph of you" is a rather odd line, and would sound better if "to" were "with". Which Take That song does it come from?

Answer: Holding Back The Tears

"Holding Back The Tears" (not to be confused with Simply Red's "Holding Back The Years"!) was on the band's 1996 album "Nobody Else"
8. On which of their tracks were Take That rather bizarrely "High up where the stallion meets the sun"?

Answer: Could It Be Magic

This was the band's 1992 cover version, on their debut album "Take That & Party", of Barry Manilow's song, which he took into the charts in 1975.
9. "Back then, we were like cavemen, but we map the moon and the stars, then we forgave them." I haven't a clue what Take That were talking about in these lines - which song did this nonsense lyric appear in?

Answer: The Flood

I've always thought that Gary Barlow was capable all on his own of writing silly stuff, but on this track, from the album "Progress", he had Robbie Williams back in tow to help with the nonsense!
10. On which Take That track can you hear the meaningless line "You'll be right and understood"?

Answer: Back For Good

Another fine example of Take That's ability to stick any line into a song as long as it has the right number of syllables, whether or not it makes the slightest sense! Another track from the "Nobody Else" album (1995).
