Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Clyde McPhatter hit begins with the question: "Does she love me with all her heart?"

Answer: A Lover's Question

"A Lover's Question" was co-written by Brook Benton and Jimmy T. Williams. Jacky Ward took his country cover version to number three on the Billboard country chart in 1978. Clyde McPhatter's version peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 but reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart in 1958.
2. "How gentle is the rain that falls softly on the meadow?" is the opening line of what popular hit of the 60s?

Answer: A Lover's Concerto

The melody of "A Lover's Concerto" was directly lifted from a classical piece--"Minuet In G Major" by Christian Petzold. The pop lyrics were written by Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell. The Toys recorded the hit version in 1965. It sold over two million copies, earning them a gold record, but it was their only hit. The Toys formed in 1961 and performed as a group until 1968.
3. What legendary group recorded a song called "Question"? The first line is: "Why do we never get an answer when we're knocking at the door?"

Answer: The Moody Blues

Combining rock and roll with a classically symphonic backdrop, The Moody Blues have been one of the most consistently popular and innovative groups of all time. "Question" was released as a single from their album "A Question of Balance" which was to be the original title of the song.

They toured for years with a full orchestra but in later years they have played smaller venues, using synthesized keyboards to simulate the strings. "Question" was written by lead singer and lead guitarist Justin Hayward.
4. "With A Little Help From My Friends" opens with this question: "What would you think if I sang out of tune?" What Beatles album is this song from?

Answer: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

The title track ends with the phrase: "and let me introduce to you, the one and only Billy Shears, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" followed by a short riff by George Harrison leading into Ringo Starr's vocal. "With A Little Help From My Friends" was covered by Joe Cocker a few years later and that version was used as the theme song for the popular TV show "The Wonder Years". Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song at number 311 on their list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
5. "How many roads must a man walk down, before you can call him a man?" This question opens a Bob Dylan classic. What's the title?

Answer: Blowin' In The Wind

An old African-American spiritual, "No More Auction Block", was the inspiration for "Blowin' In The Wind". Dylan acknowledged that fact in a 1978 interview. He performed it on American television for the first time in March, 1963. Peter, Paul and Mary's cover of the song was the most successful as their version peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in August, 1963.
6. "Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?" is the first line of the song "(They Long To Be) Close To You". What brother-sister duo scored their first number one record with this love ballad?

Answer: The Carpenters

"(They Long To Be) Close To You" was written by the legendary team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Karen Carpenter sang the lead and she and brother Richard, who played keyboard and orchestrated the arrangement, sang overdubbed background vocals as well. Their recording topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks in 1970.
7. "Brown Eyed Girl" begins with the question: "Hey where did we go, days when the rains came?" Who wrote and originally recorded the hit version?

Answer: Van Morrison

Van Morrison recorded "Brown Eyed Girl" in March, 1967. Bang Records released it as a single three months later and it went to number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was originally titled "Brown Skinned Girl" but Morrison changed the title before the session.

There are many theories as to why. Morrison himself claims he didn't even remember changing the title, but some claim it was meant to be about an interracial relationship and was changed to make it more palatable to listeners.
8. Dion DeMucci had a hit with a song that begins: "Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?" What is the title of the song?

Answer: Abraham, Martin and John

"Abraham, Martin and John" was written by Dick Holler. Holler was also responsible for the song "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron", a big hit for The Royal Guardsmen. Dion was the first to record "Abraham, Martin and John" and his version peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

It was a number one record in Canada, however. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranked the record number 246 in its "Songs of The Century" list, issued in 2001.
9. This 60s hit by The Shangri-Las begins with this spoken question: "Is she really going out with him?" What is the title of the song?

Answer: Leader of The Pack

The Shangri-Las consisted of two pairs of sisters: Betty and Mary Weiss and Marge and Mary Ann Ganser. "Leader of The Pack" was a follow-up to their first hit "Remember (Walking In The Sand)". The Carpenters used to include "Leader of the Pack" in their live performances as part of an oldies medley.
10. LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood both had hits with the song "How Do I Live?". But the first line of the song asks a different question. What is it?

Answer: How do I get through one night without you?

LeAnn Rimes version of "How Do I Live" spent a total of 25 weeks in the Billboard top five, setting a record that remained unbroken until March of 2017 when "Closer" by The Chainsmokers marked its 27th week in the top five. Billboard ranked LeAnn's recording number four in their All Time Top 100 in 2008. Trisha Yearwood's version was included in the movie "Con Air" after Touchstone Pictures was instructed by its parent company Walt Disney Pictures not to use LeAnn's version because of her age (14).
