Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Listen here / sweet child of mine, have I got news for you? / Nobody leaves this place alive. / They'll die here, join the queue, sing it.." Which Stone Roses song is this?

Answer: Breaking Into Heaven

"I_______I-I'm gonna break right into Heaven!" Come on everyone, join in! Or maybe not. "Breaking Into Heaven", a staggering 11 minutes long, is the first track on the "Second Coming" album, released a whole 5 years after the band's self-titled début album!
2. "Until the sky turns green, and the grass is / several shades of blue, every member of parliament trips on glue. It takes all these things / and all that time, 'till my sugar spun ______'s happy, with this love of mine." Which family relation would fill this gap?

Answer: Sister

My very, very, very fave song, "(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister". Every band has a good song about their sister, aw bless. Of course The Roses, to use the cool version of their name, made two about Ian's sister ("Love Spreads" being the other) making Ian Brown, not just a great singer, but a great brother too... wish I were Ian Brown sometimes...
3. Can you name the song for which these are the opening lines? "Hell hath no fury like / a woman scorned. I'll tell you my story man, I wish I'd / never been born."

Answer: Good Times

"I'm loose at the seams, I've broken my dreams! And my hand, it shakes the pen." Sorry I'm doing it again aren't I? This song was also taken from the much criticised "Second Coming" as the band broke away from the melodic pop sound of their first ablum, in favour of a much more "rock-y" sound.
4. "____ ____ ____ _____ again one day, through deep blue velvet skies. Shine for all the world to see-the universe in your eyes." Which 4 words (these being the title of the song) should fill in the blanks?

Answer: Your Star Will Shine

It's a good-un, not that good, but a good-un none the less! "Your Star Will Shine", although a track on the "Second Coming" album, was made the B-side of (the much better) "Love Spreads".
5. "Here comes the wise man, and there goes the fool. You see the burnt out world that he's living in, I don't need to look for the rules." Which Roses' track is this?

Answer: What The World Is Waiting For

Doesn't get enough credit this one but it's still a beast! "What The World Is Waiting For" is taken from the "Turns Into Stone" album, which was, in truth their second album, the record company collecting European B-sides in an attempt to keep impatient fans happy.
6. (Lead singer) Ian Brown says, "You see it in the sea, river cool's where I belong.." in which song?

Answer: Mersey Paradise

Taken from the song "Mersey Paradise", "...you see it in the sea, river cool's where I belong, in my Mersey Paradise!" A song close to my heart, being a Merseysider, though I never much understood why a band from Manchester would sing such things!
7. "I pop pop pop / blow blow bubblegum girl, you taste of cherryade. There is something here you must show me / from what you are made..." Which song is this?

Answer: Sally Cinnamon

Of course it is, and shame on anyone who got this one wrong! If you did, you're probably not a fan and getting low scores on music quizzes is not the way to climb the Fun Trivia ladder is it? Something to think about. This single actually has a similar sound to "Mersey Paradise" and sadly, repetition of sounds was an accusation thrown at the Roses by the majority of fans and critics alike.
8. "I have her on her promise, immerse me in your splendour, all the plans that I have made..." What's the title of this early Roses classic?

Answer: This Is The One

Shocking revelations were made recently about a possible reunion for the band! Ian Brown once said on this, "You could offer me Mars and Jupiter and it still wouldn't be enough." But it seems that former Stone Roses bassist Mani would like to record new material with Ian Brown, "I was speaking to Ian last night, and I'd rather play with him on some new tunes (than previous material)." Quote taken from Sky One's "Tim Lovejoy And The Allstars" on September 29 2004.
9. "You should have been an angel, it would have suited you. My gold- leafed triptych angel, she knows just what to do." What's the name of this tune?

Answer: Tightrope

Did you know that Roses bass player Mani appeared as a warm up DJ for the tribute band calling themselves, "The Complete Stone Roses" even playing "She Bangs The Drums" at 3 consecutive gigs with the lads?
10. "In the misery dictionary, page after page after page. In the misery dictionary, page after page!" Which song is this one?

Answer: So Young

"So Young" was the first record that the Roses put out (as a double A-side with "Tell Me"). Its original title was "Misery Dictionary" but was changed as the band wanted to distance themselves from fellow Manchester-based band "The Smiths" (a band known for the unhappy nature of their songs).
