'Runnin' With the Devil' was the first song on Van Halen's self-titled debut CD, released in 1978. The group got the horns from their cars and brought them into the studio for sound effects. The CD also included the instrumental 'Eruption', as well as other hits like 'Jamie's Cryin', 'Ice Cream Man', 'Ain't Talking About Love' and the Kinks cover 'You Really Got Me'.

Eddie Van Halen wrote the song a few years earlier but Roth tried everything to keep it from getting released. He wanted the group to focus mainly on their hard rock roots and avoid using keyboards and synthesizers to create a pop sound. Ironically, this was the band's biggest hit up to that time.

'Panama' was from the '1984' CD. The song was written about a car. After Roth's claim that critics attacked the group for writing extensively about sex and partying, this was done to confuse them.

'Hot For Teacher' was the last video from the 1984 CD. The video came under attack from the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) and it was suggested it be banned from MTV because of its sexual content. In 2009, the song was voted the 36th best hard rock song of all time on VH-1.
