Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Four Seasons went through a couple of name changes during their many years of success. In 1965 they hit it big with "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" under what new name?

Answer: The Wonder Who?

For some reason the group recorded under both names during the 60's. If anyone out there knows why, tell me and I'll add the explanation here.
2. This group charted twice in 1965 with "I Want Candy"(#11) and "Cara-Lyn"(#39).

Answer: The Strangeloves

The Strangeloves were actually the writer/producer team of Feldman, Goldstein and Gottehrer who, among other things, produced "My Boyfriend's Back" and "Hang On Sloopy". I sent them a suggestion for a "can't lose followup but for some reason they turned it down. It was "Hang On To My Boyfriend's Back, Sloopy".
3. Del Shannon changed labels from Big Top To Amy in 1964. His only Top Ten hit on Amy came in 1965. Name it.

Answer: Keep Searchin'

All The others were on Big Top. It's interesting to note that Del would have to wait 17 years for another Top 40 hit. "Sea Of Love" (produced by Tom Petty) hit #33 in 1982.
4. Sam The Sham made us all teary-eyed with his tender rendition of "Wooly Bully". But what was the name of his back-up group?

Answer: The Pharaohs

"Sam" Samudio was no sham! "Wooly Bully" reached #2 in 1965.(As would "Little Red Riding Hood" in 1966).
5. What group had the following hits in 1964/65: "Bread And Butter", "Breakaway" and "Run Baby Run"?

Answer: The Newbeats

The Newbeats consisted of Texan Larry Henley and The Mathis Brothers From Hahira, Georgia. (Even a tenderfoot from Chicago like me knows that Hahira is pronounced Hay-Hi-Ruh!).
6. And now peaking at #11 is that great old song "Baby I'm Yours" But I forget now, which Barbara was it by?

Answer: Lewis

Hard to believe, but her next release, "Make Me Your Baby" also peaked at #11 three months later.
7. Name Len Barry's first solo venture into Top Fortyland.

Answer: 1-2-3

Len was a member of The Dovells of "Bristol Stomp" fame even before he learned to count!
8. What did Johnny Rivers' first four hit records have in common?

Answer: All are true

"Memphis" and "Maybelline" were by Chuck Berry. "Mountain Of Love"-Harold Dorman and "Midnight Special" was done by Paul Evans. My,my,my,my.
9. Paul Revere And The Raiders Had a merry Christmas in 1965. "Just Like Me" was working its way up the charts. What was unique about this accomplishment?

Answer: All are true

"Like, Longhair", a 1961 instrumental on the Gardena label, peaked at #38. In 1965 the group moved to L.A. and signed with Columbia. The rest is history.
10. The Kingsmen finished off their Top Forty careers with what song?

Answer: The Jolly Green Giant

The tune is quite similar to that of "Big Boy Pete" by the Olympics.
